GDT: Trade and Free Agency Thread - 2021/22 PART X

The only way we are going to get a substantial piece to help us is to move a substantial piece out. I think we need to sell Nylander and Mrazek for Lindholm and Gibson. We address two of our needs and draw from our skill up front which is a luxury but not needed. There may be more pieces needed for that trade but the base makes sense to me.

Varlamov probably the most attractive option for the team. Though not sure of the costs to get him.

If the Sharks are going to sell (and they probably will) Reimer could even be an option. History with the Leafs aside, He's been good this season and likely woudnt cost much. Cap hit is also low enough the team could fit him without too much wriggling

Look while I know this will likely never happen but do any of the TML faithful seriously believe we have a chance of making some noise in the playoffs this year? I certainly don’t and think Management should sell some assets to do a quick reload in the off-season.

Maybe grab some young kids with some upside or players in need of a change of scenery. Go after a proper goalie in the off-season and take it from there.

Players that could get some decent assets/picks IMO:

Dermott
Holl
Mikheyev
Mrazek-likely have to give up something to get rid of bit you never know

We just aren’t good enough, simple as that and that’s okay but it’s time to look into the mirror real hard.

The players should be pi$$ed off! Dubas needs to get off his a$$ and help support the team on the ice.
It’s now overly apparent we need one of everything (goaltender/defence/forward).

This team isn’t even close to competing in the playoffs. Sure we have some skill, but no grit and no heart!

Why should the team be pissed at Dubas when it should be the reverse? He's tried his best to fix every hole and put this team in the best possible position to win and they've come up short far too often now.

Seriously even if Dubas sold the Leafs' future and got JT Miller, Chychrun and Fleury before the deadline, would you have huge belief that this team could go far in the playoffs? I know I wouldn't. They would have to win a couple of rounds before they made me believe in them again that they were a real cup contender.

regardless of what the buzz is..they shouldnt care and stay the course. people always are gonna backlash and what not. i legit dont think we should do anything this trade deadline. only if its a long term improvement

I totally agree that management shouldn't make moves just to appease fans. But I also wouldn't want to waste a season due to weak goaltending.

I suspect Campbell will eventually pull things together. But I'd potentially still pick up a another 1B goalie if the price was right just for a bit of added security

I don’t know that we are all that much better despite spending a 1st and a 2nd. I like Crouse a lot but Oleksiak seems like a bit of a question mark. I’d much rather use some of those assets on Giordano retained, who plays tough but smart top4 minutes and can take workload off of a declining Muzzin. Sandin would need to play the right side though.

The time to do that was three off-seasons ago. We're gonna' keep pushing our chips into the middle until we're outta' chips.

I agree with this sentiment but if its a goalie for the long run because clearly mrazek isn't working out right now. A similarly campbell trade that hasn't gotten a shot or needs a change of scene. Along side with maybe a defensive upgrade too tbh...our boys defense is just so lacklustre as well

If this team can get steady if not just unspectacular goaltending they can make noise and win a round then who knows from there once the monkeys off their back.
If the clown show that’s been going on between the pipes keeps going on then it’s going to be an even shorter post season than we are used to around here.

Most fans only react to hindsight. Doesn't matter how it is done, just get it done.

Dubas needs to seriously look at goaltending. May not be anything out there that makes sense, but that needs to be the priority.

I don't think he needs to touch anything else, or even should touch anything else. Not when goaltending can ruin whatever you do.

IDK what makes them think a guy who they got for free at the start of the year as a cap dump, and is having a worse year than he did when he was a cap dump, is worth that.

They should be happy to get a 2nd for him TBH, and that is with salary going the other way or them retaining at full.

Like if they got Mrazek, an SDA-level prospect, and a 2nd without having to retain, they should be ecstatic.

EDIT: I bet they are aiming for a Lehner return. Demin (who is effectively SDA-level), a cheap goalie, and a 2nd. Except instead of retaining, they get a more expensive backup in return. I think they even know that getting that out of Fleury is reaching when he is a 7 mill goalie with a .908.
