He's got 1 assist in 10 playoff games over the past 2 years.

Defensively he helps, but isn't that what the 3rd line is for?

Engvall on the 4th line gives the Leafs a big mismatch. He is a very good player, but I'm not sure he makes the difference in the playoffs.

If you want offense, then why are you considering McLeod? He is a defensive center, and has never been a big point producer (in the OHL, AHL, or NHL). He has some offensive skills, but Engvall is better offensively. The main thing McLeod has over Engvall is that he can be a proper center because he is excellent at faceoffs and he maybe has a little bit more of an edge.

Okay, but the point that you made was that he was elite defensively and could chip in on the offense in the playoffs. 1 assist is not chipping in. Spezza had 3 goals and 2 assists in 7 games last off-season. That's chipping in.

That's top-6 production hy Spezza and he obviously has come clutch. Engvall's ability to chip in on offense has been established during the regular season, and is coupled by fantastic defensive play and the ability to drive offensive chances. Whether he does that in the playoffs is another question, but it doesnt impact his overall play.

The bottom-6 value this season overall has probably been something like:

Mikheyev/Kase
-
Kampf/Engvall
-
Spezza
-
Simmonds

If someone's coming out it's pretty clear who it should be.

Yeah, it's not a requirement that they keep Engvall in the line-up because I really don't mind him on the 4th
line. And there are more pressing needs in the line-up currently.

There's a hit in the Columbus series that Clifford put on Kukan that really changed the way the game was played from the Leafs. I don't need Engvall to do this, but this absolutely changes the way defensemen play going back in for the puck.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Leafs start to complete more hits on defensemen when they’re retrieving pucks but I don’t know if it’s specifically a new personnel issue.

If Keefe wanted to up this quota I think he should start instructing his guys to finish the hit more often shift by shift instead of peeling back/doing the flyby. They don’t need to be bone crunching hits but if everyone starts contributing the body blows that will just make the oppositions legs a little less fresh by Game 7.

I wasn't considering McLeod personally. I wouldn't want to speak for anyone else, but I don't know much about him.

I’ve seen a 1st round pick attached to a Brandon Hagel trade proposal from Leafs Nation. That seems kind of wrong in the sense you’re buying high on what might be outlier numbers. Gotta ask yourself if this was sustainable why is he available from Chicago at all and not an emerging untouchable? I get people are trying to find another Bunting. But part of what makes Bunting so unique is he’s cheap. And didn’t cost the Leafs anything to acquire.
Yup exactly, don't buy high on guys who may have already broken out. Rather try to find another UFA like Bunting next year than spend a 1st+top prospect+another asset for a guy who may end up as a 35-40 point winger.

I definitely expect his shooting percentage to drop. But I also definitely expect his overall game to continue to develop considering this is only his second NHL season. Bunting is putting up quite a season for himself playing along side Matthews and Marner. I would expect very similar contribution from Hagel playing along side Tavares and Nylander. That on top of having him signed for another two seasons at 1.5 million is worth giving up at least the 1st round draft pick.
I get that and if he had a ton of pedigree i would expect a lot of growth too, but he is a late bloomer who went in the 6th round. Very risky he may not ever hit these paces (or come close) again.

The ask is a 1st+top prospect + another asset btw so it a huge haul for a guy with no track record and who has unsustainable underlying numbers.

Michael McLeod is a 23 year old kid who has been playing on a tire fire lottery team in New Jersey. Is he really the right add for a specific playoff type role in the very short term? If the theme of the season is building championship habits I’m not you’re going to get someone who is up to speed for that job.

As opposed to most other guys who have been suggested? Any rental we could get right now is playing on a tire fire.

He is not playing in any kind of important role. We don't need him to be a leader. All he needs to do is what he is currently doing on a tire fire team: Win draws, be responsible defensively, and chip in some offense on occasion. And of course, continue to play hard and be a good teammate. Those are championship habits, and those are the kinds of guys who end up having a major impact on winning rosters. Better than having guys who have those habits but are liabilities in the lineup.

If I had to pick between getting him for a 2nd or getting any kind of rental we apparently can get with a 2nd right now, I am easily taking McLeod.

We need to play harder - CB wouldn't provide that and would be a 3/4th liner here
I'm confused, Brown is one of the hardest working guys around and as I recall laid out of the biggest hits in the playoffs for the leafs not too long ago.

Could easily see him moving around the middle 6 depending on matchups etc

for Chychrun

Believe cap works assuming Ritchie is moved, deal is close to TDL, & Liljegren would need to be briefly sent down.

I think between Chychrun & Sandin they can figure out who plays the right side. Dubas can figure out whether to keep or move Muzzin in the offseason.

I wouldn't mind McLeod. We could use a RHS bottom-six center. He's cheap, physical, wins faceoffs, PKs and could have some untapped offense. Not sure if NJ is looking to move him though.
Would be very happy with this while at it reach out to Edmonton and grab his kid brother Ryan, watched these 2 for years with the Steelheads, big fan

They mean they want players that can play tough to go along with the hard forechecking. At least thats what I think I udnerstand.

Leafs among contenders interested in Flyers D Braun - TSN.ca

This went unnoticed, probably because I havent posted in months. But I specifically mentioned Braun and the direct link almost a week ago.

I will further this and thinking Ritchie+asset might be an option.
Nice to see you around Chuck. Wish you would post more around here. It's a shame what the mods did in trying to silence you, meanwhile hacks like Jimmy Murphy have been allowed to post their nonsense on these boards.

If JT and 88 need someone to jolt them then we should trade them for somebody who doesn’t need a jolt. It would be extremely stupid for Keefe to break up arguably the best duo in the nhl right now- it’s up to 88 to start playing with passion like he did at the first of the year.

I can honestly say that up to this year I was not a fan of 88. In my opinion he only turned it on when he wanted and played meh the rest of the time. He left me wanting more because I could see the talent he has but not always used it. Fast forward to this year. The first couple of months he has me, digging for pucks, using his size and strength to take the man off the puck and going hard to the ugly areas where you pay a price. Then fast forward to now. 88 back to the same inconsistent not getting involved players he has shown in the past. He and JT has been missing in ac5ion for the last 6 weeks or so.

Can't argue with that, he shut me up in a big way in the playoffs and I have bit my tongue a lot but the last 4-5 weeks in particular...just not doing anything.

Can you show me a clip of a single big hit from Brown? He was physically invisible in the playoffs. He works hard, sure, but nobody is looking over their shoulder to see if he's coming. Problem is that everyone else in the playoffs steps up the effort level and Brown's main asset gets washed out.
