The way Covid is being handled in Canada is going to negatively impact us acquiring players who play in the States and at this point are basically fully back to normal with zero Covid restrictions. Just the reality of the situation.

Yes I can see that. Especially with the no fans

You realize it's a contract year and thats why he's having such a good season? He's going to be too expensive and I also have no interest in him as a player anymore.

It's likely too difficult to change at this point but speaking of soft and purposeless...the 4th line has been fairly useless. Spezza's production has fallen off and Simmonds isn't a physical presence at all.

Can we afford to have a guy who makes 4+ mill going forward? We are putting ourselves into an even deeper bind if we do. Right now, we are in a good cap situation for this year and next. Severson would be nice, but not essential.

Hagel is a nice to have, but I don't think he moves the needle all that much. He is a Bunting who can PK at best... And I don't see that being really any different than Kerfoot besides having some extra pestiness. However, Kerfoot has a lot of proven playoff experience (where he has performed well), has chemistry, and can play center. Moving him, or Mikheyev, to the 4th line when they have slotted in perfectly seems unnecessary... Never mind the cost to acquire a guy who fits Chicago's window.
I think we can make Severson work for next season. He’s a significant enough upgrade to the top 4 that I think it would be worthwhile to try and make the cap work.

Don't see Kadri returning to the Leafs in the offseason. He'll receive more lucrative offers elsewhere that will allow him to play a prominent enough role at centre.

Thought they were very good last night. Nice to see Clifford off that line.

Doing some browsing of some of the teams already out of the picture; Some may not be realistic (Parise, Edler) in terms of wanting to move, as they've signed where they are for a specific reason, but overall, this is a decent encompassing list of targets we may hear approaching the deadline (some we've been linked to already)

There's a couple goalies, but I think it's unlikely we trade Mrazek in-season. Feels like more of an off-season shuffle.

Carson Soucy (D) - SEA
Calle Jarnkrok (F) - SEA
Mark Pysyk (D) - BUF
Derick Brassard (F) - PHI
Justin Braun (D) - PHI
Oliver Wahlstrom (F) - NYI
Zach Parise (F) - NYI
Scott Mayfield (D) - NYI
Nathan Bastian (F) - NJD
Damon Severson (D) - NJD (if available as rumored)
Johan Larsson (F) - ARI
Brandon Hagel (F) - CHI
Trevor Moore (F) - LAK
Alex Edler (D) - LAK
Andrew Cogliano (F) - SJS
Jacob Middleton (D) - SJS

If Wahlstrom is in Trotz' doghouse I'd try to buy low. Add Chara for cheap and go from there.

You can definitely fit Severson in. He’d be an ideal addition to our blueline. New Jersey would probably want something pretty substantial in return however.

He is doing better this year, but if people think he is a major upgrade on Holl, they will be disappointed.

He hasn't been that great for 4 years now, and even though this is arguably the best season Manson has had since his one big year and Holl has had a major rough patch earlier this year, his numbers have only been slightly better than Holl's so far.

Neither bring offense, and Manson is not exactly better at preventing the puck from going in the net in a tough role than Holl is.

A stay at home player in an awful team, its pretty hard to look good. If his teammate are most of the time out of position, unable to make any play, just always losing the puck or just stop playing after 20 minute because they already trailed. Sure you gonna look bad especially for a stay at home d who gonna look good if he defend well. You can score point with a awful team but its almost impossible to defend correctly 1 against 5, you need everybody on this ice doing their job to defend well. If someone star cheating, thats affect everyone defensive side. If someone or 2 missed their cover, thats affect everybody. If youre unable to keep the puck in your side, just will defend majority of the game. So if you are without the puck 70%, sure you will finish to make mistake.

So yes maybe manson didn't looked great but it is because of his own game or because of his teammate like on hainsey in carolina before he left for pittsburgh
