Ok now do since Jan 1 and compare it to the all other teams who are in a playoff position.

ok and for 3 months oct to dec he was litterally the best goalie in the league. ........... we can take whatever frame of reference we want to make a point.
he hasn't lost it all. just 2 games ago he stopped 45 of 46 against the high powered penguins.

we are entered the EASIEST next dozen games lets all calm down the goaltending talk until after this stretch.

call me an optimist ...... but i dont think goaltending will be a discussion point mid march

There are slumps .. but then there are games like tonight where you're struggling and everything goes to hell that can be crippling mentally on a guy who is notoriously hard on himself.

Heck the pressure really isn't even on now. The team is winning, playing well in front of him, and they're comfortably in a playoff spot.

When it gets tougher, it's hard to see that he'll have the mental resiliency to get past a bad goal, or bad game, right away. He could be lights out but with fragile confidence, that's a dangerous gamble.

It's why I'd like a veteran backup option .. Mrazek just isn't good enough to step in and steady the ship (look at tonight's game).

Love your optimism and I hope you keep that faith, but at the same time you can't be serious coming out hot and calling people out for wanting a goalie. Even Toskala at his worse has a chance of out performing the last 3 months.

i am because for 3 months he was the best goalie in the league ..... and for 2 (not 3 ) hes been average . ok so what ......
im not calling anyone out , everyone needs to chill and relax, this team is like 2 games out of first in the atlantic with a disasterous october start and a bad goaltending stretch. this is like marner bashing all over again, people will look silly in a couple of weeks when he returns to form.

you may not want to face this issue, but you are misrepresenting the problem. There is nothing average about how Campbell has played since Dec 1st. Just a handful of days away from 3 months, he has posted a .893 save percentage which is decidedly poor, and is ranked 66th among nhl goalies in that time frame. Mrazek has only been ever so marginally better at .897 and 62nd. We are not even getting average backup quality play from either of our goalies and it’s going to become a huge issue if someone doesn’t find their game soon. As we’ve already seen, despite tonight, we can’t outscore our lousy goaltending every night

I am sorry, but he has literally been the worst starting goalie in the league over the past 2 months. He has been far from average.

Out of the goalies who have played at least 500 minutes since January 1st (30 eligible), Jack Campbell is:

5-on-5
SV%: 30th (.880; 29th has a .887)
HDSV%: 30th (.704; 29th has a .765)
HDGSAA: 30th (-9.80; 29th has a -5.22)
GSAA: 30th (-11.91; 29th has a -10.02)

Fortunately, he has not been a disaster on the PK (not that we have made it all that hard for him), and it brings him just above Nedeljkovic for being the absolute worst across all strengths (by .01) in save percentage but he is still by far the worst in high danger save percentage.

And before we say it was our team, Mrazek is not doing great either but is still a lot better than Campbell has been. Unlike Campbell, Mrazek has never been given a chance to get into a groove this year, even when he has played well. We have 10 games (one of which is a B2B) until the TDL on March 21st. I would give Mrazek 5 out of the next 6 games, with the one he doesn't get going to Campbell because of a B2B.

Re-evaluate if you need an external candidate after March 10th against ARI.

I agree with pretty much everything. This is more than a slump and is very concerning.

I have never had confidence in Mrazek, but if management is dead set against making a move he needs a string of 5-6 games.

Campbell needs to sit and work on some things. I turned the game on at 2-0 and wondered why Campbell was playing. Mrazek had a good game against the Wild and should have started again considering how inconsistent Campbell has been.

I don't think Mrazek is the answer, but if management sticks with him he needs a string of games to get into some sort of rhythm.

Personally I'd prefer the team move on from Mrazek and make a trade prior to the deadline. Offer Campbell back up money in the offseason or let him walk. Give up something of value and trade for a #1 if you're only able to get a rental before the TDL.

I mean you HAVE to want a 34 (almost 35) year old goalie making over 10M/season for another 5.5 years, who's last good season was 2018-19 and hasn't played a game all year.

Lol
He was almost able to hoist and drink from the holy grail on a team with no offence, besides what has Tavares done at 11 million, more important what do you expect him to do moving forward? also Soup is getting a big raise, if kept where does he fit in the cap? changes have to made , if detroit can score a bunch wait until they get struck by the lightning when the games really matter.

Trade for Hertl.
Kerfoot straight up for Debrusk at 50 %.
Engvall in. Spezza out.
Joey Anderson in >Simmonds

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Robertson-Hertl-Nylander
Debrusk-Tavares-Anderson
Engvall-Kampf-Mikheyev

So I mostly laughed at how bad things went last night but obviously today is a different day

Bunting-Matthews-Marner - Probably unchanged unless something bad happens
Engvall-Kampf-Kase - Solid 3rd line

You either add one piece to the rest of the forward options or something because whatever the heck JT-88 is, it sucks.

You need a top 4 defenseman, Chychrun played RD the other night vs Vegas, stats were okay. Braun is probably a reasonable add but you may need more. I don't know if I want Dermott or Holl to dress in the playoffs.

Goaltendng...Mrazek probably should have started last night and was put in a bad spot I think but they gotta get Campbell in with a shrink.

I don't know who's worth adding as an extra goalie out there...basically we have a lot of problems with the roster and top line has covered for a lot of them for a while but it won't be enough in the playoffs.

I'm all in for Debrusk, Domi or Konecny.

I wonder if you can get Konecny for Mikheyev and Kral (and maybe a pick)

Mikheyev can still be a top 6er in a less top-heavy team and given that the Flyers are going to unload some contracts, they may be able to extend him. He also helps with their PK. Kral is trending toward becoming a servicable 6/7 as early as next year. They're going to need D, as they're trading some. I don't know what pick evens things out. Maybe a 2nd for them and a 4th for us?

Don't think we can afford Konekney and Domi next year.

I'd love to get DeBrusk but doubt the Bruins would move him here. He could be this year's Sam Bennett.

Some might not like it but now that Marner is on fire with Matthews, it makes 88 the odd man out if they blow up the core. As such why not consider going for the home run and moving Willie now ? You should be able to get two solid players for him, hopefully one that will wake up JT from his coma.

True for Konecny (unless they're planning to shed significant salary in the summer).

I should have mentioned that Domi, for me, would just be a rental.

JT, at his price, is by far the biggest concern.

I know some people point to production but even that CBJ game, he was awful, got a fluke assist and still maintains that near pt/game pace. It's been basically since that covid break he hasn't looked good.

Agreed and he is the one to move if possible but unless he waives his NMC, he is staying. Gotta gamble that he will find his game. If I can get something like Boeser and Miller for Nylander+, I'd be interested.

The problem with Campbell is that the last 6 games have actually been an improvement over what he has generally given the past 3 months, while for the others, it is an actual slump.

The fact that an .898 is an improvement is what is concerning.

We go with Mrazek for a stretch, see what happens over the next few weeks, and we will see if Fleury or someone else is worth it.

All I know is I am not adding anywhere else right now unless they are reclamation projects with long term upside.

The fact is campbell started to struggle after 2 game than leafs played like shit defensivly. Jan 15 and jan 19 against stl and NyR where toronto allowed like 11 goal and something like 9 or 10 of those goal was a player uncover in the slot.

From dec1 to jan 12 before those 2 awful game. Campbell % of save was at 0.917.

Campbell struggle started when leafs let down their goaltender in those 2 game. Campbell didnt struggle the last 3 month, he struggle only the last one ( 9 came space)

So yes everyone need to calm down

Why don’t we try moving Nylander to second line center and Tavares to the wing first. Tavares can’t keep up with the skating demands in the NHL today for a top six center.
