True, you'd think he'd go with Brodie.
If Muzzin isn't back I guess they'll need another to play with Rielly as well.

Soucy + Donskoi, both 50% retained. Not the sexiest name at F (and having a bad year) but a solid middle 6er with another year under 2m. Decent darkhorse buy low candidate.

Another surprise name I could see (if we go with a forward) is a retained return of Andreas Johnsson

Johnsson isn’t much different from Kerfoot, but it’s possible.

Seattle has a lot of names. Donskoi is solid, I really like Jarnkrok. Tanev is great but too pricy. Mason Appleton I love.

what I’m saying is that if we have one move in us, I’d be looking at a trade with Seattle. I’d take Gio or Soucy and in a combo with one of their forwards, and away we go.

Soucy wouldn't be a bad try at 50% retained. Even if he doesn't make the top-4, he'll have value at that price. At full pop I thought his contract was a little heavy considering his usage and the unknown on where he'd fit or whether he would.

He is also good as a LW if they want to jumpstart JT. He played more wing than C this year but still great on the dot in all 3 zones. He doesnt hit but he is really strong in traffic and does pp and pk.

I'm guessing their comment about Muzzin and LTIR is a plausible cover for any shenanigans that may occur. Getting the best defense upgrade would be the priority and then the Muzzin timeline falls into place.

Thing I would say about Muzzin is if his injuries are very serious and he goes the way of Weber/Price on LTIR, I could also see a Hampus Lindholm becoming a more important re-sign, if they make a big deadline acquisition for him. So the sticker shock would be lessened because they would basically ybe getting a Muzzin replacement. Just a couple of angles from a distance.

For sure that's what it was, Dubas knows he's not getting the protection that Tampa and Vegas are getting for the same thing!

New PK coach strategy relies on Kerfoots legs. I get posts saying to demote him but he can't be removed from the roster entirely.

Only way you can get rid of Kerfoot is if you want to lower the AAV by bringing in someone who can do everything he can do on the PK but has no offensive ceiling. Maybe in a scenario Robertson finally cracks the top 6 or they make a trade for one of the big name forwards. Not a decision that can be made today if it's the Robertson route since deadline is too close. Our special teams is the main reason we have an edge on teams so makes no sense to take away from them. If you want to bring back Mango I'd gladly play him over either of Mik or Engvall though. They have like 10% of his playoff fierceness (That doesn't mean I'm targeting Mango as an add for us).

I'm telling you, remove Kerfoot from the PK and you just made our team worse. Our PK is something that makes us stand out in the Atlantic. You don't want to ruin that. We don't have an edge in anything else, not even xGF.
 
Someone in my hockey pool suggests Garland + Schenn from Vancouver for Kerfoot + Mik + Pick may happen with Gilman scouting Vancouver.

I dont think its enough value tbh but is there any smoke to this deal?

I'd have to agree with you. Kerfoot seems like an off season move.
I know his cap is greater but he brings so much more than Engvall or Mikheyev.

pro-grit guy dropping the gloves for Kerfoot. There's about 4 people right now confused how to respond :laugh: "How do I spin this into him wanting a roster of goons"

You probably have D.D.T.S. (Dubas Deadline Trade Syndrome)
It's an overwhelming feeling to always expect the worst.
I find getting out on the golf course helps to relieve the symptoms.
