GDT: Trade and Free Agency Thread - 2021/22 PART IX

On 590 this morning, ex-goalie, Steve Valiquette, believes that Campbell and Mrazek are fine.....backups. He's not sold on Campbell as a starter. Kevin Woodley said the same thing yesterday.

Valiquette, who works for the Rangers, believes that Georgiev has starter potential and that the Leafs should try and trade for him. He thinks the Rangers would want Campbell in return.

Just sharin'

:tmi:

Justin Bourne said he thinks the Leafs should not trade for a goalie and that "everybody" should be fired if they lose in round #1. Pretty sure Dubas is not willing to take that chance just yet.

If I can get Chychrun early and perhaps get Zona to retain, then I concentrate on a top 6 LWer and possibly a goalie if Soup has not straightened himself out in a week or so. A top 4 dman is a must IMO.

P.S. If Holl could play like he did last night, I'd be bullish on our D with Holl as our #3RD and the addition of Chychrun. Some obviously are not bullish on Chychrun. Hopefully they are more wrong than right.

Then I wouldn’t want him. I wouldn’t pay anything higher than a 5th for a 7th dman.
Yep, I agree with that.
He's certainly not worth the late 1st Vancouver fans have requested.

So if Holl is kept as the 3rd pairing right D, who are you sitting?

If someone were to listen to Kypreos and Bourne's show without having watched a game this season, they would think the Leafs were a lottery team rather than being one point off of the division lead.

I know. He hasn't been good at all. That said, Valiquette still thinks he has starter potential. Not sure.

how can a guy who works for the rangers speak about players on another team suggesting the rangers would
Want him.

that’s tampering

To clarify, Valiquette doesn't work for the Rangers. He's an analyst for MSG Network (covers the Rangers) who also runs his own analytics site called Clear Sight Analytics. To further clarify, he listed Georgiev as one of many names who fit the criteria of a goaltender that would succeed as a starter in the Leafs current defensive system (other names were Holtby, Binnington and Varlamov).

There are multiple factors that determine how good of a fit a goalie could be in a certain system, like splits comparing a goalie's numbers with starter/tandem workloads, or high chance/low chance workloads.

You probably said the same thing last year when we were the Kings of the North. Seriously you can take what they say with a grain of salt but what Dubas does tells us what the Leafs think. What does the addition of Lyub tell you that many people have been saying all year ??

I don't know if you misread my post but I'm not super happy with how this team is currently built.

My post was about Bourne being a shit source for information. Not about Dubas or how the team is built. If I was in charge I'd be looking to make 3-4 changes easily.

Not sure what Bourne has done to set you off but in this case his opinion was that the Leafs goaltending will be fine and there is no need to trade for a goalie. It was only when Kypper asked him what do you do if they lose that he quickly said "fire everyone" probably because most believe they will be if they lose in round #1.

you think Montreal is going to retain over 5 million per season long term on a Carey Price trade? And I shutter to even speculate what that would cost lol
Playoff price would take this leafs team to the finals , multiple times, late first rounders go for rental players and third liners, playoff price would command more than simply 2 late firsts regardless of contract, Tavares is getting more than price and Tavares has never been a difference maker.

But what happens if Muzzin is ready to return before the playoffs? I'm all for spending the money but what if?

Then we hold him back until game 1 of the playoffs. We have to take advantage of this opportunity.

Then he won't be ready to return until the playoffs. :thumbu:;)

They should be able to assess approximately when he can return, which if it's "close" to the playoffs, he won't be cleared until the playoffs are here. "Close" could be a matter of weeks....

I understand the way you guys are thinking but what if Muzzin decides after say the next 15 games sitting that he's fine? And then if he's not satisfied with the team doctor's prognosis?

That could absolutely happen. If he's healthy he will come off LTIR.
