I know it's not going to happen but can you imagine if Owen Power decided to stay in college and pull an Adam Fox to the Leafs. Fox is from the NY area and only wanted to play for the Rangers.

Would make for spectacular theatre.

With the new NCAA sponsorship rules. It makes it even more likely (even though it’s like 0)

why couldn’t Scotiabank The rom some other local places give him tons of sponsorships that are more than the 3 million he could make on his elc?

Local business could in theory do that to entice him.

Will never happen but still….

What do people think about this trade:

Mrazek + Kerfoot

for

Puljujarvi + Koskinen

That's an interesting wrinkle. I hadn't thought about the new NCAA rules about sponsorship/likeness.

If the Leafs somehow don't make it out of the first round again this year. I'm moving Marner instantly. One team I'm looking at is Columbus. They have previous interest considering they were prepared to offer sheet him. They have a load of very promising prospects. They'll have more then enough cap space as well.

To Toronto-
Kent Johnson
Corson Ceulmans
1st Round Pick

To Columbus-
Mitch Marner
Justin Holl
2nd Round Pick

I really don’t think we should be surprised if Ritchie is claimed.

I will be surprise if hes not claimed

A team like montreal canadiens with a lot of injury and who need to play with ahlers, why not?

Ritchie still an NHL player

Some of the Edmonton posters want Ritchie for some reason. They suggested Ritchie for Turris. Turris is a UFA at the end of the year and his contract is fully buriable.

I'd probably be interested.

Turris' contract is not fully able to be buried, and he sucks. Like really bad. He is not even worth half of his money.

I would take Turris' contract to make the money work, but I'd want something else that has actual tangible value outside of dumping Ritchie's money next year.

I mean if they want to do Mrazek + Ritchie for Koskinen + Turris + valuable assets, I would listen, but they'd need to make the major downgrade in depth worth our while. Cap is practically equal, but obviously they get guys with term who can actually play instead of subpar pending UFA's who should not be in the NHL right now.

I will be but I'm happy to be surprised

One thing I would point out is that I doubt Dubas handed Ritchie a 2.5 x 2 contract without any other serious offers on the table.

Not when he had "you have the chance to play with two of Matthews/Marner/Tavares/Nylander for your hometown team" as a bargaining chip.

30 games probably does not sour the interest of teams willing to pay something similar, or possibly more, to bring them onto their team 6 months earlier. Not for a guy at his age with his prestige, and there are a number of teams with the cap space to make it work.

Claiming him may also be the only chance a team has at getting him this year, especially if they are in the East.

Forget ceulmans. I want sillinger

What makes moving Ritchie more complicated is that he's owed $3.3mil in real dollars next year. Really odd contract by Kyle. I think we'll have to pay to get rid of it.

Marner would probably get traded to a middleman team like Arizona. They get him for a year at under a million after we pay his bonus, sell some tickets, and trade him at the deadline at 50% for a kings ransom.

No way in hell I trade Mitch to Arizona no matter what package they offer. Having Mitch in Arizona with Matthews up for new contract.. he'd be an instant captain on his childhood dream team with his boy Mitch on his wing???????

Nah Arizona is off the table

Arizona is going to have 50+M to spend, they only have 7 players signed for next year, they'll be entertaining to watch what they pay and to whom. Armstrong can go in so many directions, perhaps a small add would do the trick?
