That Teows deal was bad at the time, and is now a complete disaster by Lou. Isles because of Covid are only playing one regular d man, and Teows could have helped them right now. Lou only has himself to blame for those bad depth contracts that it costed him a good d man.

It's an especially big disaster for them because the #1 need for the Isles is a puck-moving dman who can also man the PP. They stacked their blueline with mostly old, slow, defensive dmen, and are unable to effectively get out of their own zone and have an impotent PP.

If Leafs want to make a trade to add scoring even at 50% retained... he's not the guy I'd be looking at.

He's bringing way to many issues and the Leafs have good chemistry going right now.
I’m surprised some have such little faith in Dubas. Sure he’s made mistakes but give him a little credit. Not a chance he would give Kane more than a moments thought and that would only be to laugh at the idea.

Is there a player league wide that would be a worse idea?

Kane is not vaccinated and thus would not be able to play here...

This kind of makes me want Kane even more. Looking at Detroit's daily cap tracker, it appears that Bertuzzi (who's unvaccinated) doesn't count against their cap when they're in Canada, in addition to him not being paid.

We could trade for Kane, pick up a cap-dump asset in the process, suspend him indefinitely and he could go have carnival fights with Jake Paul in order to pay down his debts. Win-win.

Any top 6 wingers available??
Unfortunately all of the teams with pending UFA's are playing better than expected. Was hoping guys like Hertl/Forsberg/Gaudreau would be available.

Lot's of guys with term on bad teams but it makes things a lot trickier without retention.

I wonder what d will be available for cheap next year?

I am looking at seattle.

Larson would be the dream. Holl and 1st for Larson but I doubt we would want to come back here.

Gio might come here cheap for a year? Play with Brodie. Maybe rielly goes to the right?

dehaan maybe? He could come here cheaper? He and JT are good friends.

For this year if the flyers are out. Braun might work. But he’s American so the border

Bringing Kane in would be an easy no way here.

Guy is a head case and has been toxic in 3 different organizations and locker rooms.

What more is needed to know that it’s all him?

We are seeing firsthand in Vancouver the effects of a divided locker room. Anyone think Muzzin, Simmonds, Tavares, or Spezza will put up with guy’s bullshit?

No way. Kane is bad news and not worth a second of thought.

I recall people bringing up Domi as a target and thinking, 'could there be a worse guy to go after?'
Congrats, they've found one.

Holl is better than all those guys.

Holl is better than all those guys.
True, which is why he should have decent trade value being at half the price or less for most of his comparables.

Lou loves trading futures for vets and they have a hole on the right side. (Dobson is their only healthy RD worth NHL minutes.

I think there could be a Pageau style deal to be had there.

Stock the assets, see what you have in Dermott/Sandin/Liljegren playing consistently and go from there at the deadline.

Darkhorse wing add:

Kyle Okposo 75% retained via Arizona. Should be cheap (even with retention*), brings a heavy playoff style game, could catch lighting in a bottle reunited with JT.

* Why is retention cheap? Heavily frontloaded deal. Come game 41 the current year portion of that retention would be 500k cash to Buffalo, 250 to Arizona. Next season = 2m Buffalo, 1m Arizona.

Nice find. Wonder which other of these Cap dump wingers have similar salary structures.

interesting.

having a decent year too.

but i worry about making the team slower, and his effort level is always a question.

Larson sucks, so does dehaan. We have 6 nhl D without Holl. bolster up front

JT Miller is probably available

PPG who can play wing or centre. At 50% he's also making 2.6 million, almost the same as Ritchie

Dubas probably won't go all in but if he wanted to, JT is the guy imo
This is the guy. Grab him at 50 & Schenn to be the 7D. Offer Ritchie + Holl and whatever futures make it work.

The Giordano thing is very interesting for next year. Toronto guy. Wonder if he would want to come here on the cheap to wrap up his career.

It's gonna take a lot to get them to retain 50% AND get them to take on Ritchie. Holl has value, but not sure he has much value for a team probably blowing it up very soon. There are quite a few teams that would take on Miller without retention and still give up good value. I don't think it's realistic to expect this to happen at all, Benning or not.

I think the Leafs can get a really good player without having to completely overspend on assets like JT Miller anyway.
