I don't think we will see HoSang with the Leafs until next season.

Or at least until the team can guarantee they won't lose him to waivers (right before the playoffs)

the problem is Ho-Sang is on an AHL deal, which means any other team can sign him. So if the leafs want him, then they should act fairly soon or someone else will scoop him up

That's not a risk. Read what he's said, and what his plans are. https://thehockeywriters.com/maple-leafs-not-rush-josh-ho-sang-nhl/

He's grateful for being given the opportunity, to work for a full time role. He knows he has work to do, and the org and HS are working together for that.

Yep, you have to believe if a team comes knocking with an NHL contract he'll force the Leafs hand.
Either they sign him and play him or he walks to another team. Can't blame him for that.

I think this is where the loyalty factor comes into play tbh, they gave him a chance and he seems to be eager to play with us. So unless our hands are tied and there is no other alternative, I just think he'll be there until next season. I mean there is no denying his talent and now seeing his drive definitely makes us salivate at the chance of adding him in our squad.

Still think he'll be Kase replacement for next season

Ho-Sang would need to re-invent his game to become a Kase replacement, and given we are using him more like Bracco than like Kapanen on the Marlies right now, that seems unlikely.

Anderson and Steeves are more likely to be Kase replacements.

You think they will guarantee him a spot in the lineup next year?
IMO, you're loyal to yourself first. Leafs will look after themselves first, player would do the same.

I assume the recent Sandin and even Dermott injuries have halted any sort of appetite to trade a defenseman... with good reason. Rielly and Muzzin have also been bumped and bruised lately.

I don't expect the Leafs to be involved in any big buys. Just no cap space right now and the lack of picks makes things very difficult.

I do hope they can pull off a good depth move or two though, similar to the Barabanov or the Marchment trades... but hopefully we're on the proper side of it.

I agree with you especially for players who are trying to find their footing again.
I don't know just from how things are going, and how you are entrenched in the leafs system with the AHL right there, I think it incentivizes people are a lot more than usual.

I don't think he see's himself as an AHL player. He'll want an NHL cheque at some point and if another team offers it he'll take it.

If Ho Sang has shown enough for the Leafs brass to believe that he had a real future with the team, they will sign him, if it comes to that. That he is still with the Marlies, suggests that no offers of interest have been made to Ho Sang, so he's fine.

Kenny Agostino, Kalle Kossila, Nic Petan, Gogolev, Steeves, Semyonov, Bracco, Mueller... have all been more productive the past few seasons for the Marlies. Petan was 1.24 P/G a couple of years ago. Ho Sang is 0.87 P/G

He's not destroying the AHL by any means, so it's not like he's a clear must have for any organization. This is a 25 year old, who has never lived up to the hype, who hasn't played in the NHL in three years, only played 10 games for two points then.... He's done nothing in any league since, to convince anyone he's a top six NHL player.

The talent and skills he has is clear, but that hasn't translated to show anything at a level that any NHL executive would scream, this 25 year old disappointment is showing that he's ready to breakout.

Why do people worry about this crap?

it’s not really a loyalty thing. It’s a guarantee to extend his career thing. No one is going to give up a guaranteed opportunity for the chance at one.

Frank Corrado mentioned in an interview; a few years ago Dubas reached out to sign him. Corrado said that Dubas said he can have an NHL deal and guaranteed money or he can have an AHL deal so that other teams can sign him or if they leafs needed him they could sign him after a while.

I’m sure the same type of offer was extended to Ho Sang

of course he’s saying that to the media. What else do you expect him to say? If an NHL team comes calling, so you think he’s going to honestly say, “no thanks, I’m gonna chill with the Marlies” hell no,‘let’s not be naive here. And quite honestly I believe Dubas is the type of GM that would encourage Ho-Sang to take the opportunity if it presented itself

Anyone that has followed the Ho-Sang story this year knows that he isn't going to jump at signing an NHL contract with another team this season.

Next season could be a different story. This season - not happening.

Ho-Sang is 25 (26 in a month) hasn't played in the NHL in 3 years, was kicked off his SHL team last year and been good, but not dominant like a 25 year old "NHL caliber" player should be at the AHL level.

His career earnings are 1.3 million (according to cap friendly), his dreams of any type of NHL career and payday are hanging by a thread. I get he may see the Leafs as an organization that can help to rebuild his game but if any team offers him and NHL contract and NHL pay he's taking it, no questions asked.

I respect your opinion. Even though you're trying to pass it off as fact.

I don't claim to know what Ho Sang can be, but I would suggest that there are players who have complimentary skills that are best suited to others who are skilled. Is JHS that type of player? I'll leave that to others who have seen him more than I.

Can Gio play right side ?

besides him , Hertl and Fiala would be awesome. And if we could reign Kane in and make him a good human he’d be ideal

Exactly how I see it. He may give the Leafs the chance to match but IMO, that's as far as the loyalty would go.

I am far more concerned about losing Kase than Ho Sang.

With the injury history for Kase, wondering if we can extend him now with term for a lower AAV so that he has financial security long-term vs risking a long term injury between now and his next contract.

he’s young enough that a “long term contract isn’t ridiculous and he’s been a terrific addition.

I wouldn’t bat an eye at losing Ho Sang. He isn’t a difference maker for us moving forward.
