I am far more concerned about losing Kase than Ho Sang.

With the injury history for Kase, wondering if we can extend him now with term for a lower AAV so that he has financial security long-term vs risking a long term injury between now and his next contract.

he’s young enough that a “long term contract isn’t ridiculous and he’s been a terrific addition.

I wouldn’t bat an eye at losing Ho Sang. He isn’t a difference maker for us moving forward.
The great thing about Kase is that he's an RFA at the end of his contract so we would retain his rights.

Guys.... Let's do it...Let's bring Phil Kessel Back...The draw to the Toronto Hot Dogs are probably amazing and great ;):sarcasm:

All jokes aside I'd love hert
Phil would be ideal. Scoring winger, veteran, winner, knows the market, reliable player who you know will be in the line up everyday. regardless of the side stories which I think would be awesome, he’s a good fit imo

exactly and at the end of the day it’s not a JHS vs Kase thing. I’d love to see both end up on the leafs. But JHS is so talented, he can def make this team better if given the opportunity.

I think for me, I’ve followed JHS since the Toronto Marlbros . He has def shot himself in the foot at times. But other times Islanders incompetent management mishandled him. He def didn’t get the same treatment Dal Colle got and he’s better than Dal Colle. So I get why he’s a bit bitter or was bitter in the past. In every situation he always has to prove himself a bit more while others have been handed opportunity ahead of him. There’s no denying that. So I can only imagine if given the opportunity how good he’d be. He was good when up with the Islanders.

honestly fascinates me that a guy who gave up on Lilly and Robertson at ages 21 and 20 is a big fan of 25yr old Ho-Sang, who isn't better on the marlies than they have been, and is much more one-dimensional to boot.

I’m for it, but how would possible retention work since we’re already retaining on him?

Any retention is based upon what Arizona is responsible for. Our retention is irrelevant. He would be an additional $3.4 mil cap hit at 50% retained.

We really don't have a spot for him on this lineup anyway. He just isn't the kind of player we need, and is best driving his own line. You going to put him in Marner's spot? Nylander's? Kase's? I think we are good at RW...

I never said I gave up on either one of those guys. And this is what you do, you come in here with these dumb comments and your minions will come flocking to start arguments that I never asked for.

Robertson I said I don’t know if he is strong enough to stay healthy for full NHL seasons. And I also said I hope they find a way to develop him more post injury. How is that giving up on him? It’s just a general observation. The guy is really weak on his skates it’s no secret.

Lilly you’ve dubbed him the next Drew Doughty, i disagreed and said he’s more of a bottom pairing guy and I’d move him for an upgrade and you and others lost your shit. Well he’s looked pretty average lately, but let’s not rehash that conversation.

I’m convinced more than ever now you’re just an ass of a poster who looks for arguments then you back off and ignore replies to just insight chaos.

And what is it to you if I like Josh Ho-Sang as a player?
No, you actually said you would take Mac Hollowell over Liljegren.

Basically an AHL #7 over Liljegren. Yikes.

Golyshev would have been an interesting name to pick up... but sounds like he's going back to the KHL just like Semyonov.

Ahh okay that makes sense in terms of rentention. Nylander can play LW no?, I don’t think you can ever have too much scoring. I don’t know how we even make it work salary wise so I don’t think we’d ever do it. But it would be quite fascinating.

Justin Holl for Jeremy Lauzon fixes the cap crunch.
I’ve seen Louzon’s name a few times. I don’t really know much about him but aside from a cheaper contract he doesn’t seem to be an upgrade on Holl.

Exactly how I see it. He may give the Leafs the chance to match but IMO, that's as far as the loyalty would go.

While I doubt he would outright pass on a contract, I'm not particularly worried about it.

Gally rehabbed himself as a player last season all the way into the Leafs top six as the headed into the playoffs and he still only managed to get a league minimum (and I think he was signed to a pto before that?). I think Ho Sang would need to have scouts jaws dropping to earn a contract from a non Leafs team at this point of the season

It’s not having too much scoring, it’s not having enough puck to go around. Some players need the puck on their stick, Nylander, Marner, Kessel are all these types. Kessel would be best suited, to driving his own line, as he had success in doing with Pittsburgh. I don’t think we have a spot for him to do that.

With Bunting playing as well as he is with Matthews, it’s pretty much put the need for a top nine forward to rest especially with Mikheyev returning from injury soon.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Ritchie/Mikheyev - Kampf - Kase
Mikheyev/Ritchie - Spezza/Engvall - Simmonds

If there is a position/spot I’d like to see us improve on it’s at the #4 defence spot.

I'd rather make it more simple and create cap room by dealing Holl for a pick. Mickey is better forward depth than you'll get in a trade short of trading another 1st.

Rather not lose the depth at D though as we've seen Dermott and Sandin sit out. Nearly had Muzzin out the other night too after blocking that shot. Pretty sure Rielly has some bumps and bruises he's playing through as well.

On an unrelated note, maybe Justin Braun is a good addition if Holl is going out.

Getting absolutely buried in D zone starts with the Flyers but plays a simple game.

Chiarot is not worth a 1st round pick... He may net one for the Habs but it better not be from us.

Could be wrong but of NHL teams I think he's only eligible to sign with the Leafs right now because his rights are with their AHL team currently.

on an AHL deal you’re free to sign with any team. The NHL team doesn’t actually own your rights, which is why they have to sign you to an NHL deal before you can be called up. Frank Corrado speaks a bit about this in his interview with Steve Dangle. He was in a similar position to Josh Ho-Sang in his second stint with the Marlies/Leafs. A lot of players will likely show loyalty to the NHL affiliate though just for giving them opportunity, especially a team like the leafs with lots of money where your AHL deal may be the same salary as an NHL deal.
