Canes seem to be weathering the DeAngelo storm just fine.

He's played 25 games for them so far

He's also been run out of town everywhere else he's been

It's all good right up until your team is in the middle of a media **** storm and you have major divisions amongst the team

What's the worst that could happen? We lose in the first round again?

I get what you're saying - don't get me wrong, but the safe way hasn't exactly worked. Kane is a lunatic but still a very good player and at 3.5 mill, it could be a really solid move.

I'd take Kane at 50% if he came with Hertl at 50% for Ritchie and Holl/Dermott/Mikeyev. But short of an obscene overpayment I'd pass.

The team implodes because we added a divisive cancer to the room and don't have the leadership to control him

I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot barge pole, he's got some serious problems

If they don't make it deep into the playoffs this year, isn't that happening anyways?

He's stupid but he's not a locker room cancer. Also people change

Eric lindros was locker room cancer when he slept with other people's wives

We haven't had a power forward like him since Owen Nolan. Something this team has been missing so badly. A banger who can play

If we don't win another round, we are going to implode anyways. He's so different from other players that he's the type we are missing

Josh Anderson, Tom Wilson would think twice before running over Muzzin or Sandin

Get him Dubas. Roll the dice

Again just to clarify, I'm not suggesting to get Kane at any cost. It would have to be in a deal where 50% is retained and Ritchie goes the other way. They can have Engvall too if they want.

Leafs dressing room would be in shambles the second Kane walks in there lol

Why exactly ? He sticks up for team mates and done so over and over again. Hockey players are hockey players first

He's not the first hockey to do something stupid and won't be the last

Canes seem to be weathering the DeAngelo storm just fine.

Carolina is also a very quiet market with next to no attention on their team or their players, even though they are one of the best in the league right now. Even then, the Canes signed him to a no risk deal because they knew it could blow up in their faces at any time.

The Leafs are a completely different ball game. If he thought the Rangers' media was bad, then try handling our media (or Montreal's). He does one thing that is out of line and it is a huge distraction, and let's be honest, he is going to do something that is out of line at some point. Heck, even if he just plays poorly, it is a huge distraction.

Never mind the fact that the Leafs hired and quickly fired Dusty Imoo for a lot less than whatever DeAngelo (and Kane) has done publicly... And Imoo is not even a guy who would get much attention from a casual fan but would still pay huge dividends to our developmental team.

Kane is no different, and he doesn't have a no risk contract like DeAngelo. If we can't suspend him without pay like San Jose did, it is a lot of dead cap and a toxic personality that we have to exile. He's attracted a ton of negative attention and he has only played in some of the smallest markets in the NHL (Atlanta, Winnipeg, San Jose, and Buffalo).

I don't think Dubas would even take him on if he came with full retention and they paid us to take him. We are painstakingly progressive as an organization, possibly even to a fault.

It's been documented he isn't liked by his teammates. Both in Winnipeg and San Jose

Idk, it might be worth the risk. Kane is literally the perfect player to compliment our top 6

Only real concern for me is if it does blow up in the Leafs face, which is a very real possibility, they'd be stuck with his 3.5M cap hit for the next 3 years. This would be his last shot.

Up to the Leafs to do their digging into him. Theres a reason everyone in the sharks dressing room hates the guy.

Why? Because every other dressing room he walks into is.

If we don't get him really hope Washington or Tampa doesn't get him

With Wilson and Kane along with Ovie may not be a very good mix for other team

Players don't just systematically destroy locker rooms. Kane's hockey related LR issues have all involved vocal leaders like Wheeler (see Laine situation), Byfuglien, etc. who have a "my way or the highway" approach. He meshed well with the Sharks room until the off-ice drama came about, but early on they raved about him being a good teammate.

The Leafs have a rather quiet and supportive room with Tavares, Muzzin, Clifford, Rielly, and Simmonds who he knows. I don't see any player that he would butt heads with, the problem would be his public image and off-ice personal life.

I don't think the Leafs will touch it because they've become such a corporate, woke org. However, there were some rumours of the Leafs being tied to De'Angelo before and the Ho-Sang add was a bit surprising, so who knows. He'd put this forward group over the top and is the exact stylistic fit they need in the top 6.

If Kane wasn't such a questionable character, I would take him. I trust Dubas to look at everything before deciding to go for him, but it's so risky.

I would take Savard. Even though he has had a tough start

He was bad the past two years as well, at least relative to his role and cap hit.

He is a decent bottom pairing defenseman painted as a top 4 guy. He hasn't been true top 4 quality for years, and he is in his 30's now. It is only going to get worse.

I truly can't understand the amount of people on here ripping on Kane because his off ice issues have become public regarding his ex wife. Anything that was hockey related was investigated and he was cleared of any wrong doing. Yes I understand he faked his vaccination status, just like Aaron Rogers did for the Packers, I don't see NFL franchises really giving a crap about it. The league is full of players who have done a lot of shady things, but have been lucky enough for it to not be constantly talked about throughout the media. Hell, our president Brendan Shanahan slept with his teammates wife and is now married to her. So let's be real here.

Point is, Kane is a top 5-10 power forward in the game. He's exactly the type of player this team is missing and could only dream of getting, especially if he comes retained.
