Russo insinuated on his podcast that guerin’s looking to add a top-6 forward. Man I could think of one who would look real good on this team. I’d be willing to do Faber+Ohgren to get it done. Young ppg scoring wingers don’t come around often.

Well at least the locker room isn't walking on egg shells or anything right now
Who would’ve thought that winning is what makes a great locker room, not overpaying bottom-six guys who you think are culture pieces?

I don’t see Middleton getting moved because it’ll be another failure for BG and I don’t see them conceding that any time soon. The dudes a bottom pairing defensemen on a decent team and a press box defensemen on a cup winning team. He adds some grit, great, at the cost of literally anything to do with the f***ing hockey puck. The $ is fine for what he is, but he’s adding zero to the objective of the game.

If it’s true BG is trying to add a top 6 forward, I have no clue which former/current Penguin is available, but I also don’t trust him to determine whether a player is top 6 or not. He’s not added a single top 6 player in his tenure, only subtracted them.

If Dumba can be moved today to Toronto for a late first (run) and Holl, you do it and don’t look back.

This is kind of a good summary of my issue with him. He likes to shuffle pieces but he doesn't like to actually change the bigger picture. Plug in Bjugstad. Plug in Johansson. Let's try Bonino. Pateryn for Cole. Talbot, Kahkonen and Kulikov for Fleury, Gustavsson and Middleton. Lots of moving parts, nothing actually changes. So I'm assuming that's what he's going for here.

Rather than just realizing when he's in a corner and cutting his losses. There's no reason we should be trying to trade futures for roster players, and trading roster players for different roster players isn't gonna change anything. He's trying so hard to keep us mediocre when we could just organically suck for a year and try again later.

And this is how we'll end up with a Dumba for Kerfoot + Holl + 4th.

This is would make more sense if Guerin hadn’t traded Zucker for 1st + prospect (Addison) + cap (Bjugstad). That’s probably the standard for a deal, maybe slightly less.

@Jesus comma Brodin Kapanen is a current Penguin (no ties to Guerin) that's been scratched a few times this season.

E: Actually I lied, Kapanen was drafted by Pittsburgh in 2014, a few weeks after Guerin was named AGM (after being a player development coach for three years prior).

Chucky was the cap coming back not Bjugstad (he was an offseason conditional 7th trade). It's also much different circumstances. Zucker had 3+ years left on his contract, where Dumba is a rental.

Dumba is more in line with the rental for stuff trade like Staal for MarJo, Sturm for Jost, Talbot for Gus.

The problem is Kapanen is a RHS FWD, and MN can't have more than 2 of those. :sarcasm:

I've also been thinking about Kapanen as a possible pickup. A Jost for Kapanen (more expensive and 1 year longer contract) hockey trade. The $3m cap hit next year makes me somewhat leery of him though.

I doubt he’s looking for a “hockey trade” for Dumba, which is what those are supposed to be. We don’t need a RD either with Faber not far out.

I'd personally have no interest in Kapanen, but he's a fast north-south player, which sounds like it's what Evason wants. And in theory he could come cheap as long as Guerin doesn't "try to find a fair deal".

Faber is in college and at best 4 months away from the Wild. He might sign after the college season and he might not. He might be ready for the NHL (I think he'll need AHL time). I just don't see Faber as being the next McAvoy.

Nobody is trading futures for Dumba until the TDL. There are only 7 bottom feeder teams (without counting LTIR funny money) that that could take on Dumba at $3m. It'll be a hockey trade just because of the cap involved.

Dumba just isn't worth much. He's not going to anchor a pairing. He's not going to put up a lot of points. He's not a PP weapon. Nor is he a PK specialist. He's not a big and physical crease clearing d-man. He's not a great transition game puck mover. This are things we all know. If us fans know this then other teams will also know this.

Most fans on here were "don't let the door hit you on the way out" when Staal was traded. The feeling seems to be the same with Dumba. Even with half retained Dumba is only getting a Playoff 2nd, and most Playoff teams have no use for him.

Don't underestimate a GM's willingness to take a chance on a formerly good RHD at 3M.

Are you really expecting a zebra to change it's stripes? The only trade where GMBG didn't try to find a "fair deal" was the Zucker trade. That trade got his old boss fired (among other reasons).

No, I expect nothing from Guerin, but I still hold out hope.

Toronto is desperate. They’ve got three defensemen injured, two of which are LTIR. Guerin needs to get it done.

TOR media/fans are desperate, it doesn't mean their GM is. TOR has 0 cap space and a full 50 contract roster. They have some LTIR relief but what happens when players get healthy?

TOR could also be on Dumba's 10 team no-trade list. Lots of players want nothing to do with the fishbowl that is TOR.

Don't underestimate a GM's willingness to take a chance on a formerly good RHD at 3M.

Dumba is pretty far away (4 years?) from being formerly good. He's also looked pretty bad this year overall, his regular and adv stats just aren't good.

If he was having a quality season then I could see teams paying for him. Right now the only place he'd be an upgrade in the top-4 for Playoff teams is TOR (and that's due to injuries).
