I guess everybody is technically a nobody until they prove they can play.

Colorado fans were pretty excited about Jost once upon a short while ago.
And Newhook. At one time not too long ago they never would've traded Newhook for Boldy straight up.

Maybe I should rename our top prospect list to “Minnesota’s #1 Nobody, Minnesota’s #2 Nobody, etc.”
Call them whatever you want. They need to at least be better than Rask, Rau, Staal, and Dewar before being anything of note for the NHL roster. Body was last year, Rossi wasn't.

COVID, 1st pro season, whatever... I don't care. Results are what matters now. The NHL isn't a developmental league. You're either good enough to be in it or you aren't.

Rossi was held off the NHL team so his contract would slide. Now it lasts through the entire bad part of the buyout years.

if he was above a PPG player idk how you say go back down you're not good enough, not 100% it wouldn't happen as the contract slide is a huge need but that is a tough sell to a young kid.
Well, they didn't have a problem with it when he was a PPG player. And, by the way, I'm not saying that they're wrong in doing so. That contract slide has the chance to be pretty massively important for us, depending on what kind of player he becomes.

Didn't Guerin mention that Rossi needed to work on some aspects of his game not just points?
Every young player needs to work on aspects of their game.

By that note, according to some people here, Fiala should've been in the AHL these last 3 years.

I was meaning in the NHL not AHL. I understand the importance of his contract sliding and I fully agree with it, what i was meaning is if he was up for his 9 game taste and had 10+ points I dont know how you just send him back down even though I fully understand reasons you would want to.

Fiala isn't a young player though. Rossi is 19, lost his d+1 and had a massive medical scare. They are going to take it slow and make sure that Rossi catches up with his peers. He needs to get stronger physically and learn better defensively. Best to do it in the AHL.

IMO, Rossi wasn't strong enough or fast enough for the NHL last year. He struggled in those departments against AHL players last year. He also struggled in the FO circle.

Completely normal, given that he missed a whole year of development. I won't be shocked if he doesn't make the team out of camp, but would hope that he is up by the New Year. A lot will depend on how healthy the MN team is, and how players like Jost, Gaudreau, and Dewar play.

A lot can change over the summer.

I don't think it has anything to do with him being a ppg player on why he was sent back down or not. There are clearly other traits of a hockey player that need to be developed that don't involve scoring. I know, I know crazy to think that on a hockey chat room right....

If you think about it, it's only 3-4 months. Time to break up with your old gf, maybe a get a new one. Sleep in for the first 2-3 weeks, binge some tv, play some video games, go fishing, have your mother make you fav foods, drink beer(s), play golf, see buds, finally get around to going to the gym, skate a bit.

Rossi seems to be a guy who was already bulked up. Unless he grows another inch or so, I don't see him getting much bigger, unlike a guy like Beckman, who is a stringbean. With Rossi, you just hope that the last of the Covid side effects are gone, and that he starts to get his man strength. I am pretty confident about his hockey IQ, work ethic, and puck skills.

Rossi is 20yrso. People don't mature completely physically until they're 23-24yrso. Yes, he can still improve quite a lot over the summer... especially since he should be getting a full offseason to work out, unlike the stunted one last year where he was coming off of months of inactivity per doctors orders.

Obviously players need more than just the ability to shoot the puck. All I am saying is that if he was scoring at a rate above a PPG it would not be easy to say hey, thats not good enough we are going to send you back down. is that so crazy to think a prospect would take that in a bad way?
