I missed that part. Good point. Year 3 from now could be:

Kap-Lindholm-Yurov
Khusnutdinov-Rossi-Boldy
Ohgren-Eriksson Ek-Greenway
Duhaime-Hentges-Dewar

Lambos-Spurgeon
Brodin-Faber
O'Rourke-Addison

Wallstedt
Gus

That doesn't look too bad from my POV.
I think that there's a player in there that would probably have to go the other way, along with our 2023 1st, but it would still be pretty good I think.

The one that didn’t seem to really fit was Khusnutdinov. Kinda just threw him on the wing somewhere. We also have Peart, Haight, Hunt, Lorenz, etc that will be vying for spots.

I wouldn’t go trading a ton for Lindholm either. Something like Khusnutdinov+1st is the top offer for me.

So have we all accepted Tyson Jost’s ascent to Boldy’s wing?

I'm still looking for a Necas or Poolparty trade. Sprong (PIT ties) is a non-QO RFA that I think GMBG would look hard at signing.

I think FA/trades will get a jump in action as soon as Kadri and Kilngberg sign somewhere.

Boldy/Rossi/Gaudreau or Boldy/Jost/Gaudreau

I'm not really opposed to Boldy Rossi Jost either. Gaudreau is good, better than expected but we are all searching for someone to fit with Boldy Rossi instead of Boldy Freddy long term. Heck maybe even break up the GREEF line and go Boldy Rossi Foligno and Greenway Ek Dewar or someone else. Since we seem to intentionally want to take a step back next season maybe give Beckman or some of the other AHLers some time and see how they do.

They won't do that, nor should they.

The only thing I don't like about the line (as a 3rd line or second scoring line if you want to call it that) is that I think Rossi/Boldy seem like great maximizer/multiplier type players at this stage (in the Zucc vein), but I'm not sure if they are line drivers, especially through the neutral zone (and I don't think Jost is either). Maybe Boldy takes a step forward without Fiala and shows more of that.

Fiala/Boldy/Gaudreau played a really possession-driven style of hockey. I worry that without the ability to have a guy on that line really be able to skate through the neutral zone and into the zone with possession you end up with a lot of dump and chasing and a style that I'm not sure Boldy/Rossi are best suited for.

I agree don't break up GREEF. There is some the sum is better than the parts magic that goes on with that line. I think together as an entity you effectively have a borderline 1st line caliber line given the two-way play (at least in the regular season) and if you separate them it's some degree less than that.

I'm of the opinion (somewhat controversially) that Foligno is the odd man out on that line despite Foligno's great stats over the past two seasons. So, I guess maybe you try it and it works? I'm not sure who you would put on the Ek/Greenway line that would make sense right now though.

I would much rather see (if Rossi isn't ready) Boldy-Freddy-Jost. I think Jost has upside to see an offensive bump in a winger role with less responsibility defensively (similar to Granlund although not the degree in which Granlund was a scorer as a wing) where Freddy is better handled to play the middle as a skater and on the dot.

I just wish they could find some middle ground between Bruce line shuffling and Evason writing them down in stone for the entire season. Or at least mix them up once in a while when we are on a skid. Mostly I just hate to see Boldy on an island.

If shuffling is needed, you shuffle. Lemaire proved that... you think Bruce shuffled lines a lot? Lemaire did it far more often before he got players that were actually any good.

I will favor a coach who's willing to try to fix things than one who does nothing.

I still think they are going for another Gaudreau type of player - someone they can sign for 1mil but can put up 30pts and move up and down the lineup so they have more options to experiment. Someone like Heinen (but he might be closer to 2.5-3mil so he's a reach).

If they are good enough to trade away Fiala then they are but that is still a questionable move.

Any good UFA forwards still available? Guerin said he's out there looking, I bet he'll wait until unsigned players become desperate, then he can sign a decent player on a bargain deal.

Matt Boldy was the best player on this team through the neutral zone and on zone entries not named Kaprizov. Questioning him in this regard is among the things I’m least concerned about in his game next year.

Hopefully BG is watching and waiting to see if any of the "contending teams" that Kadri wants to sign with are looking to clear cap space are willing and/or desperate enough to trade away a decent asset that can contribute right away and not bust the bank.

Since there are up to 10 teams at, above or barely below the cap, I believe the waiting game is wise (for more than just the Kadri situation. i.e. potential top 6 RW or the lesser likelihood of a top 6 C). But, there's also, IMO up to 17 teams in position to pounce. Passive interest likely wouldn't get it done. One option is Puljujarvi, assuming it's for a 2nd or 3rd round choice and that he would sign for less than 3M per.
