We now have a young goalie in Filip Gustavsson. So in a roundabout way, we have a similar tandem going into next season compared to last season. Just different names.

I would have preferred to have Kahkonen instead of Middleton because I don't think Middleton is that great. I also recognize that my opinion on that is a minority opinion on HF Wild.
I prefer Wallstedt, but Gustavsson has worse numbers than Kahkonen. Cheaper, yes - but not really a similar tandem. I mean that's like saying we replaced Gaborik with Havlat, so similar wingers, just different names. Or replacing Fiala with Petan.

I also think you have a valid opinion regarding Kahkonen vs Middleton vs Gustavsson.

Got the prize free agent and two stud defenders in the top 12 of the draft. Pretty good offseason for CBJ.
They also added Kent Johnson (he came onboard at the end of the season).

They had an outstanding draft the last two years:

Jiricek, Mateychuk, Del Bel Belluz, Johnson, Sillinger, Ceulemans are just their top picks.

Add in Bjorstand is still 26, they can trade Laine, Roslovic is 24, Bean and Boqvist are under 24 - they are vastly underrated. Having Korpisalo, Tarasov and Merzlinkins is really good as well.

Yeah, CBJ is building a nice group. Would be nice for us to get a couple of top 10 pick worthy centers in the next few drafts. But I don't see that happening unless Kap has to stay in Russia for the year.

Never know, the CBJ had Laine and still picked in the top 10.

Dumba+Greenway+Jost+2023 1st for Tkachuk? :sarcasm:

You jest, but if the Flames really are gonna tear it down and rebuild, they have a 27 year old center on their roster that I wanted Fenton to get.

Two seasons left on his contract, Gaudreau and Tkachuk all but gone, crazier things have happened.
He would basically have to ask for a trade in order to be traded this offseason. I brought up Tkachuk in jest because he has basically confirmed that he will not be a Flame for much longer. Sucks to be a Flames fan at this moment.

I would agree it probably won't be this summer, but the minute the Flames think they can't extend him, or maybe would rather pursue a full rebuild, he's gone. All I'm saying is I'd like to be one of the teams after him when that time comes.

Agreed I would want to be calling about him now so they know to circle back to us when they make up their mind to sell.

Makes little enough that the money isn't too tough to deal with now, and he lines up nicely with Zuccarello's $6M coming off the books.

I missed that part. Good point. Year 3 from now could be:

Kap-Lindholm-Yurov
Khusnutdinov-Rossi-Boldy
Ohgren-Eriksson Ek-Greenway
Duhaime-Hentges-Dewar

Lambos-Spurgeon
Brodin-Faber
O'Rourke-Addison

Wallstedt
Gus

That doesn't look too bad from my POV.
