I think they lost out on some guys they were targeting - they know they have a hole to fill on Forward...options aren't getting better as time passes.

I don't think so. The big names/money players weren't ever a target. The league min guys are a dime a dozen.

There have only been 4 UFA FWDs signed for $1m+ after day 1 of free agency: Pitlick, Palat, Strome, and Jarnkrok.

There have only been 23 total FWDs signed for between $1m and $4m since FA started. I can't say I'm sad that MN didn't sign any of them.

I think they're actually in about the same place when it comes to the kind of 4th-liner free agents they were probably looking at initially. There are still a few of those guys available, and the more time passes the less likely it is that you're going to be giving any of them too much money/term.

The Talbot trade probably opened up some options on the trade front, though. Being able to take back $2-3m in a trade when teams are looking to scrape space for Kadri could lead to a nice trade for some team. Good time to be patient.

I wouldn't mind pursuing Nino, if the price ends up being reasonable now that the first few days of free agency have passed. He was always one of my favorites and would be a nice piece to slot next to Boldy and Rossi.

Nino's probably looking for a pay day but a man can dream.

No interest. His puck handling isn't good enough. It was never Jason Zucker bad, but not as good as I'd like our players to be.

One thing has been strikingly different from Nino's stint here, we've become a very good passing team. Credit to Big Balls Billy on that at least, even the role players can pass the pack pretty well, which has sped up the team's play more than skating ever will. Nino was very much a part of the problem, as were most forwards outside of Granlund in those days when it came to suspect puck passing skills (both passing and receiving the puck).

I sincerely don't want to trade Zuccarello because of kaprizov. I just respectfully think it's beyond a bad idea

It sure is, losing Zuccarello would be a huge loss for the team. This would only make sense if the team was in full rebuild mode. But that's not Guerin's plan, that's why Zuccarello is here and Fiala isn't.

Fiala is gone and Zuccarello is here because of a NMC and 2 million dollars.

Now, trading Zuccarello would be a bad idea if the goal is to compete for a playoff spot. The return the Wild would get, I think, is significantly lower than some here believe. I wouldn't mind the Wild trading him, and I also don't mind them keeping him for the length of his contract. Regardless of which is better long-term, for better or worse the NMC makes it likely that the latter happens.

That's what happens with a lot of players. If it didn't, free agency wouldn't exist.
Let someone else deal with it. It's also how teams stay competitive or rebuild. It's why Minnesota was stuck in mediocrity for so long. I hope to God you never run a business.

He has a modified NTC

So trade away not 1, but 2 players that just had top-5 point totals in team history, in the same offseason?
And how good did they do in the playoffs?

Minnesota is not stuck in mediocrity because free agents left. Good god...

It is one of the reasons. They had no one to replace those that left so they had to find others in FA to replace them.

Minnesota has done a better job of moving UFA before their contracts are up.

I don't know when it was put there, but it's been like that for at least a month now (that's when I first noticed it).
I know i looked somewhat recently just to varify when his M-NTC kicked in and it wasnt there. Wonder when it changed but yes that does cause issues with moving him for obvious reasons.
