Hate to say it but Kessel slots in nicely across from Boldy with Rossi or Gaudreau at C. He’d definitely replace about 70% of Fiala’s production and it’d be nice to have a legitimate RHS on the PP.
I could dig it on the off chance we find some cap space buried out in the desert near Albuquerque.

I'd rather sign Dylan Strome to a cheap(ish) deal than sign Malkin/Kessel to be honest.

Yeah if malkin wants a 4 year deal, combo that with his injury prone history, up to age 39, it just sounds like another overpayment.

So much this.

I watched every pens game in their series against the Rangers (In-laws are Pens fans,) and he was horrendous. The points look fine, but he floated the entire time and if you thought Fiala's turnovers were bad, wait until you see the Russian Vanek stand in the neutral zone for 18 minutes after coughing it up on the blue line 11x per game.

If we get another Hartman for cheap, I'd be really happy. Obviously Malkin is a lot better, butI'm not a fan of giving him a big contracy.

agreed i dont want to pay the cost for malkin. however i could see kap carrying the play quite well with malkin finishing a lot as malkin at least has decent speed when he wants it. Strome needs to be right spot right time and with the right players always, never on his own it seems.

It would be fun no doubt if he’d sign for 2 years and we trade 3 guys, but I don’t see that happening.

indeed. I am trying to do some cap crunching on a very much unlikely deal but if we traded Dumba + Greenway to VAN for Miller and then Talbot to EDM for Puljujarvi + pick + prospect and sign samsonov to 2,-2.5m we would still have roughly $3,350,579 to through at the remaining roster spot.

Kap - Miller - Zucc
Foligno - Ek - Puljujarvi
Boldy - Rossi - Hartman/Gaudreau
Duhaime - Dewar - Hartman/Gaudreau
13th forward

Brodin - Addison
Middleton - Spurgeon
Kulikov - Goligoski
Merril

Fleury
Samsonov

this is with expecting pulj to get 3m+ so it can vary but it could allow us to just throw Rau in the press box for that 13th forward.

Following year you move Zucc, Kulikov and Foligno clearing 11.350m in cap space.
Miller signed to 5 x8.5m
Boldy signed to 8x6m

Kap - Miller - X = 17.5m
X - Ek - Pulj = 8.25m ( Pulj @3m as that is what Greenway makes and they are close in comparison)
Boldy - Rossi - Hartman - 8,563,333m
X - Dewar - X = 800k
X

Brodin - X = 6m
Midddleton - Spurgeon = 10.025m
Goligoski - Merril = 3.2m
X

Fleury = 3.5m
Wallstedt = .925k

13,418,079 left over to fill the holes.
Beckman in Folignos spot is a 894,167k cap hit
Addison resigned at 2.5m x 4 fills the hole next to Brodin if we do not have other options available.
7th D we can say 1m as a safe bet.
two 4th liners and a 13th forward just shot in the dark 1.5m per spot on the higher side so 4.5m

Leaves us a little over 4.5m to get a new winger for Kap and Miller. Obviously we could create more cap space to get that top line forward by promoting from within in the 3 lower forward spots and 7th dman and up that to roughly 6.5m free space.

Are people expecting anyone to be signed? The team is pretty much set and the only thing they can add is a bottom 6 forward. I personally don’t think there’s going to be any FA signings.

Russo speculates a bottom 6er as he had a list of names that he "lost". with our cap and current "openings" i couldnt see anything more than a 4th liner. dont think we need to sign anyone id rather promote from within, Swaney and Chaffee just got offered deals give them a taste.

We literally can't sign a league minimum deal without moving someone out (Trade or Iowa).

There is only 570K in cap space once Rossi is added to the roster.

Kulkov is likely traded given the current makeup of our defense. I wouldnt mind getting ahead of next season and start shopping zucc around but that is unlikely.
