We literally can't sign a league minimum deal without moving someone out (Trade or Iowa).

There is only 570K in cap space once Rossi is added to the roster.
Actually, you can, but what is the rule for that? Aren't you allowed to exceed the cap by a certain amount until a certain day, in which you must become cap compliant again? I have a feeling this will become relevant for the Wild very soon.

I thought it was something like 10% by the start of the season?

10%, so we could sign somebody but it would require a move (or moves) afterward to become compliant on opening day.

So I guess we sent Talbot to Ottawa. Site won't let me post from desktop right now so no thread, but Seravalli and Weekes have it on Twitter.

Wut!? Guerin doesn't know what he's doing! He can't make up his mind! He pissed off another player!

Does that cover all the topics prematurely?

Yeah Guerin basically kicked Talbot out of here, a good player and a great person. Talbot had a reason to feel like he's been treated like crap.

We just have to assume that Guerin got the owner's approval, otherwise he may not live long around here.

This might come as a shock to you but Guerin and management give very little f***s what we think around here.

Just because someone is a good person, we shouldn't trade them? I'm so confused by this narrative that Talbot was treated like crap. Do explain.

Talbot hasn't been mistreated.

I get why his agent was all butthurt, because signing Fleury a.) killed the chances of Minnesota extending Talbot, and b.) put him into a tandem situation going into what might be his last contract year. Still, no GM is going to run a team based on how their middle-of-the-road 30-something year old goalie's contract prospects look.

Honestly, I hadn't thought about it but it could be the 2nd year that ticked Talbot off more than anything.

Committing to the 38 year old over the 35.

Malkin is:

- Not that good of a hockey player at his current form
- Never known to be a team player; lazy and streaky
- Expensive

Hard pass.

I don't agree on the first two, but I do on the third.

And also, I agree on the hard pass part too.

I didn't like the idea to committing to either. Talbot obviously took a step backwards this past year...

So ~$2.5M to work now, with leaving a $1M cushion. Addison in for Kulikov is another $1.4M if we're so inclined, but I think I'd guess that they keep him around now.

Even with the step back, Talbot was still on par with Fleury. 6 vs half-dozen kinda thing. I am glad we're not paying both anymore, but it happened in such an awkward way. For someone who preaches personal relationships, treating guys with respect, and a certain culture, this specific situation could not have gone much worse than it did, even if the overall impact is negligible.

If Kulikov gets moved, it's likely after teams don't get who they targeted in free agency.

No one is looking at him as their go to solution, but might be an acceptable fall back.

Kinda crazy to look at how easy it would have been to keep Fiala now. But hey, good for Fiala for getting out. I'd say the odds of him winning a Cup in the next decade are higher than ours.

I get that this is a Penguins joke, but depending on the AAV I do like this more than a lot of the bottom-6'er options.
Actually, I'm kind of digging it.

BTW: I'm curious about Talbot's numbers:

He had one rough month in January (3.86 GAA and .871 SV%), but does no one recall that he got injured in the Winter Classic and was out all of January? 1) No one knows what type of injury he had and 2) the condensed schedule near the end.
