I'm betting they keep him for our annual first round exit and let him walk for nothing. What's more, Guerin will make it sound like it's the obvious thing to do.

It's painful because you're probably right.

/shrug. It's not like Dumba is worth a lot in trade after the last few seasons. A Playoff 2nd+3rd due to his high cap hit as a full season rental? That was what MN spent on D-Lo + MAF last TDL.

So keep him and give it the team the best chance in the Playoffs and he walks. Trade him and get a couple of picks that aren't very high, but make the team worse for the Playoffs. It's a 6 in one, half dozen in the other situation. Those that want to collect futures will say make the trade. Those that want the best Playoff team will say keep him and let him walk after the season.

I'd be in the keep him and let him walk boat. Others on here will disagree with that. Which is fine, but not something I'm willing to put the effort into debating.

So how far up the draft board does 19 and 24 get you?
Should get you to the high teens, possibly to 10. if I read the chart correctly.

So another opportunity to lose even more value but if they think a stud is there at 10-13 or so, might be tough to pass. Sure seems like GMBG has created a lot more opportunity for second guessing than success in the whole situation.

I wouldn’t trade 19 and 24 in same deal, but would trade the later picks to move up a few spots from either.

These draft charts values vary so much team to team and draft class to draft class. I think they are nowhere near as set in stone as the NFL value charts.

I don't disagree. Just used it as a general guideline of where we could expect to be able to trade up to.

So I guess the next big question with this team is what happens with Dumba, and there are probably two ways that could go:

1.) They work out an extension this summer, probably similar to the contract he's already on. If Addison and Faber both turn into full time NHLers in the next few years this would leave us overloaded at RD, but after 2023-24 Spurgeon's NMC shifts to a modified NTC, so moving him out becomes an option.

2.) They go into next season with Dumba on the roster but without a contract, with the option to move him at the trade deadline. I think this would probably be Plan B, but it's definitely on the table if Dumba wants more than they're willing to give him.

Technically they could try to trade him this summer, but he's unlikely to return more than he would at the deadline anyway. And Guerin doesn't seem like the type to worry about having him walk in UFA for nothing.

Either way, I'd think this question's largely answered by August.

If Dumba is not re-signed, the Fiala situation becomes even more botched. He 100% needs to be re-signed and I’m fairly confident he will be (home purchase this year).

I think its very possible that Fiala forced Guerin's hand by telling him that he wanted out.

That might be, but it feels like Fiala wanted out the minute Kaprizov got his extension and he got his 1 year qualifying offer.
To me it was when Fiala held out when Guerin first got here made me think that thisll end badly

Russo alluded to this on his new podcast as well, but it sounds like Fiala was only willing to talk to LA. Atleast initially.
