I think Fiala to the Inslanders
I still think it's Ottawa, but the Islanders are my runner-up and it's not by much. If it comes down to which one Fiala's more interested in extending with, I could see New York winning out.

Anyone have thoughts about the difference between picks #7 and #13 in this draft? I haven't been paying attention, but it seems like there isn't a huge drop in that range. If that's the case the secondary pieces in an offer might factor more heavily, too.

if Raty is the + to #13 i feel like that may be better than #7 + the b prospects Ottawa fans want to toss up. i have not been following Raty though so i am unsure if he has come back to form before he fell in his draft.

I would be surprised if we got Raty added to #13. Not that he's a world beater, but giving up that 1st and one of their better prospects seems steep for an RFA that needs a contract, as good Fiala is.

i dont disagree but if there is going to be a bidding war which there very well might be, he has to offer up something to beat #7 + so you would hope Raty is added.

I don’t know, I think #13+Raty is a very comparable offer to #7+Thomson. I’d prefer the center, but Thomson opens up the ability to trade Dumba as well.

Islanders have ~$12M in cap space with only 3 defenseman signed. Unless they're fine going super bargain shopping with the remaining 4, I'm not sure if it fits without something like Beauvillier coming back, which I'm not certain we can do.

I agree, but if you exclude Raty what piece are the Isles adding to compete with 7 + Thompson?

Wahlstrom. Don't love it, but don't exactly hate it.

interesting choice. i think id lean towards Thompson over Wahlstrom. Really wish i had an in so i knew what teams were all asking seriously about Fiala for better speculation. Devils are lined to too many players to think we will get their quality offers, at least in my eyes.

Thomson*

But, thinking about this:

To Minnesota: Lassi Thomson, 2nd overall pick
To New Jersey: Mathew Dumba 50% retained, 7th overall pick
To Ottawa: Kevin Fiala, Alexander Khovanov

New Jersey gives up the 2nd overall pick, moving down the 7th overall and out of the top 5. They get a right handed shot to replace Subban and still have some cap to make a run at a tier 2 or even tier 1 UFA.

Ottawa gets a prospect that is in desperate need of a change in scenery. They also get an elite, first line forward in Fiala

Minnesota gets a replace in Dumba with Thomson and a chance to grab an elite offensive talent like Cooley.

New Jersey loses a 2nd Overall, gains Dumba and the 7th overall
Ottawa loses 7th overall, Thomson, gains Fiala and Khovanov
Minnesota loses Dumba, Fiala and Khovanov and gains the 2nd overall pick and Thomson

New Jersey already has Hamilton and Severson. I don't think they're going to have much interest in moving back to add another RD.

I really don't think there's a realistic scenario where we end up with #2 in this draft.

They could trade Severson.

cant say iv watched him enough to know plus isles are not a superior offensive team so stats may be a bit low for the type of style they play.

He's a shooter/trigger man. His best asset. He definitely has his faults, but as a secondary piece goes, in theory, it wouldn't be a bad skillset to put next to Rossi (playmaker) and Boldy (pass and shoot).

indeed if that is the position needing to be filled ( which we obviously assume) then we need a selfish shooter with those 2 playmakers.

If Philadelphia offered a 2nd and Morgan Frost for Marcus Foligno do you accept that deal?
No. There are not many players in the league that are physical, defensively sound, and able to put up .50 PPG+. His leadership and cheap contract are a plus too.

The only forwards I would trade from this team are Zucc (age), Greenway (overpaid/overrated), and Jost (no viable spot for skillset).

if we put jost in zuccs spot he may become underpaid.

Man, i see nothing at all in Jost. I'd rather he play for some other team's top 6.

He's currently what I'm hoping Dewar turns into. 4th liner that chips in 20p, but can play up when there is injuries. Nothing special, but a win for a 3rd round pick.
