If a team came calling about Hartman and offered a 1st+2nd for him, would you pull the trigger on that trade?
Unlikely, considering the return for Hagel (RFA vs UFA but Hartman’s better imo).

Hartman at $1.7M for 2 more years is such a steal of a contract & I think he’ll benefit this team a lot more in just the next two years than the potential future benefit a 1st + 2nd could bring 4-5 years from now.

Not only that, but the fact that he signed a team friendly deal to have stability makes me extremely hesitant to ever consider moving him. You keep him and hope he feels the same way when he’s due for an extension.

It's also extremely normal to have three picks in the top 100, as that is what is given to each team by default. It always bugs me when he points to that as some boon that we have.
Russo just has to get back into the mindset of this team trading away all of their 2nds and 3rds for deadline rentals that don’t work out.

In a vacuum, it would be smart to take the picks.

With the way the team and cap are setup he's worth more to MN than any other team.

I also don't think MN is a prime spot for FA to sign under GMBG. He needs to show some loyalty to the guys that took cheap deal to stay here (this is why I think Goli was re-signed) to change that perspective. Cole and Bonino walked and took similar deals to what GMBG was supposedly offering last offseason. He's dumped vets like Dub, Koivu, Parise, Rask, Staal, Suter, and Zucker (some rightfully and some questionably).

I'm really curious to see if D-Lo and MAF (I think GMBG wants them back) re-sign or walk.

32 Thoughts: Could 2022 bring us the best Stanley Cup Playoffs ever?

14. As Carolina fell in Game 7 of its series with the Rangers, Jordan Martinook played 7:14 of the third period. That’s more than any forward not named Sebastian Aho (7:23). You could see (and hear) the disappointment from Rod Brind’Amour, as no one wears their heart on their sleeve more than he does. The Hurricanes conducted exit interviews over the past two days, with the most interesting comments coming from Martin Necas. The talented forward admitted he took a “step back” this season, losing his confidence. “It was a tough season for me and I have to learn from it.”

No play embodied it more than a glorious look he got from the high slot in the first period of Game 7, but he passed to a surprised Andrei Svechnikov, smiting the opportunity. Necas said he’d like to move back to centre. “Me and Roddy gotta trust each other a little more.” You know how this league works. People will hear that and ask what Carolina’s thinking. Necas is a restricted free agent, and word is the ask (and I don’t have exact timing) was a little too rich for how the Hurricanes saw things. We will see where this goes, but it’s not like Carolina to sell low. Necas is only 23.

🤔

Certainly interesting but the cost has to be steep.
I wouldn't hold my breath on it happening, but Necas is interesting as a potential trade target for Fiala. He needs a contract but his QO isn't high and after a middling season a 3-4 year deal shouldn't break the bank. He's got plenty of skill, wants to play center and checks some boxes that we lack down the middle (he's 6'2" and shoots right).

The comment about trust between him and Brind'Amour will probably be overblown, but no more so than the Fiala/Evason stuff has been. And Carolina undoubtedly wants to break through the wall they've been hitting in the playoffs, which seems to come down to a lack of scoring. Despite the poor reviews from the series against St Louis, Fiala should help with that if they can give him a linemate or two.

You'd have to know more about Necas than I do to have a good sense of how risky this would be for the Wild, but in a vacuum a straight swap makes some sense to me. I still think Fiala probably gets traded for a package of futures that everyone is rightfully pissed off about... but if Carolina's interested this might be a dark horse.

And I realize YouTube highlight vids are bottom of the barrel in terms of player scouting, but it's not hard to swap "Aho" with "Kaprizov" on several of these. He can keep up.

I haven't been impressed with Necas when I've seen him. Not bad, but doesn't stick out. I don't see anywhere near the star quality that Fiala has. Is also a RFA next year, so we'd have that to contend with. He would become a UFA before we are done with the Parise/Suter buyouts, so i'm not sure what we would be gaining- maybe a year or two's delay in paying him, allowing our ELC D to come in and fill some spots?

I want the OTT 7th + Grieg or Holtz +(2nd or equivalent).

Necas used to be a top-tier prospect but I am losing interest in him. A year ago, I would have overpaid for him but after this season, I don’t think I’m on board with Fiala and him being in the same conversation. His underlying possession numbers are terrible for someone of his skillset and he is by no means, a defensively responsible player. We can’t expect to replace Kevin’s production, but Necas doesn’t seem like he’s going to bring much of anything other than possible potential at some point in his career. If he plays center, Evason may murder him after a month or two considering what he demands out of his centers.

I’m worried the devils aren’t willing to trade him if they even are interested. He looks like a future all star.

He looks like a guy with a Fiala level offensive ceiling, though probably a better goal scorer, who is years away from being well rounded and prepared enough to be trusted with the ice time it would take to hit that ceiling. They'd do the trade for the certainty of the player they are getting and the years they can fast forward in development if they truely think they can compete next season.

Seems like a pretty ideal trade. Wild get the cap savings and take on the bust risk, Devils jump from developing to competing.

Holtz would be ideal for MN, but I don't think he's ever been on the table. I think NJD was out of the Fiala sweepstakes after getting 2oa.

My guess is NJD will throw big money at home state boy Gaudreau as a UFA instead.

I could live with all, except the kings deal. I would be super disappointed with that.

Here's the order I've got:

1. Devils 2022 1st for Fiala + Wild 2022 1st
Reason: We nab a likely star center of the future in Logan Cooley.

2. Islanders 2023 1st + Raty for Fiala
Reason: Raty is giving off Lundell vibes for me. I think Covid messed up his draft year when he likely would have been a top 10 pick.

3. Holtz + 2nd for Fiala
Reason: Holtz is probably the most NHL ready prospect amongst these proposals. He would slide right into Fiala's spot next to Boldy and Rossi.

4. Senators 2022 1st + Brannstrom for Fiala
Reason: we get a top 10 pick and we avoid having to watch Middleton in the top 4. In fact, this trade would likely make Kulikov/Middleton and possibly Merrill available for draft capital.

5. Ducks 2022 1st + Perreault
Reason: I don't hate this proposal, but it is definitely not my favorite.

6. Kings 2022 1st + Turcotte for Fiala
Reason: Turcotte has had concussion problems and leaves this trade wanting more.
