I’m hard on Guerin right now because he’s making a bet that I certainly would not have. To be more specific, he’s betting that being a middling team for the foreseeable future is fine and that accruing assets that he can wepaoninze post buyouts is the right approach to take with this team. It could certainly pay off, and he could look like a genius if he’s able to turn this team into a contender after years of remaining competitive with a $15M handicap. But right now, I’m skeptical. Either way, I hope it all works out.
I can think of three basic scenarios that play out over the next 2-3 years. One is a disaster, and ends up with him being fired. The other is..ok. The third is perfect, and proves that he really did, “have a plan”.

1- we mediocre but not flat out bad for the next two years, Rossi turns out to be a tweener, and none of the other prospects are anything more than bottom pairing, bottom six players. Kaprizov demands a trade, telling Guerin he won’t re-sign. Wallstedt has serious injury problems. Spurgeon ages, and his game suffers.

2- we continue to be a one and done playoff team…maybe win one series. One Dman( Faber?), maybe two forward prospects(Rossi, Marat.) end up being decent, but not great, middle sixers.

3- Wallstedt and Gus are the best tandem in the league. Marat/Rossi turn out to be a perfect fit on the 1st line. Yurov comes over and turns out to be a first line talent. Bankier is a solid 3C. Three of our D prospects are playing regular, top 5 minutes, and one more is knocking on the door. Addison is still an effective #6/PP guy. Kaprizov re-signs, at a reasonable rate, stating that he wants to retire as a Wild player. We enter 2025-26 with a large amount of cap space to get a FA signing that intrigues Kaprizov.

Also means that no one wants Kapanen except for maybe free. Time will tell. I don’t know why the Wild would have interest in swapping out Greenway for an even worse player.
Is it Kapanen a Steel tYpe player at this point? Maybe a bit better, but not a C, so… at least Greenway is big and strong. We’ve seen him play well…it’s not impossible he does it again.

Those are some very wide 3 options.

For 1 it would be worse if Kap didn't take a trade (or was injured) and just walked.

If they can move Greenway, I’d be okay with it. Don’t think he gets to us before they have a chance though.
Not me, he’s signed for another year at 3.2M that could conceivably cost us one of Gus, Addison, or Gaudreau, all of whom are more needed than some wafty Euro winger.

Ya…I should probably go back and edit the first one, but too lazy.

Go big for Larkin or Chychrun!

Larkin only if he agrees to re-sign immediately after the trade.

Chychrun would be nice, but it might cost all 3 of Addison, Goli, and Middleton being traded in the offseason. It could work but then they'd be depending on 2 ELC d-men (Faber and ROR?) to make the roster.

That is a price I’d be willing to pay.

I know. I didn't say I wasn't enjoying it.
I think the biggest thing that’s bothering me is that he’s the one getting chances to score recently. Puck on his stick and he’s lacking in the finish department. Someone get this guy out shooting 500 pucks every day outside of practice.

Kravtsov traded for peanuts. Could have been a solid pick up if he was that cheap.

Must've been something else going on here. Guerin aside, none of the 30 other teams in the league could beat out an offer of nothing?

Thought he was going to be part of the Kane trade.

That's the exact thing that isn't bothering me. I'd be more worried if he wasn't getting the chances.

He's likely going back to the KHL after the season, another Russian that's NHL or KHL.

I wouldn't have minded taking a random AHLer + 7th flyer on him, but I don't see him getting on the ice for MN either without a few injuries.

So NSH is a seller that leaves it a 9 teams race for 8 spots in the West. Their goalies have been stealing enough points to keep them in the mix up to this point. Now with RyJo out for the rest of the season, Forsburg banged up, and now a Nino for futures trade.

The only player (now that Nino is gone) on their roster that somewhat interests me (considering cap hit/term) is Jeannot and that would only be to bump Reaves out of the lineup.

I would have liked to have gotten Nino (rental+1) for a 2nd.

I think NSH was "doing right" by Nino, and MN wasn't a trade option after how things ended between MN and Nino when he was traded a few years ago. Just a gut feeling without any type of proof to back it up.
