Yeah, I agree that I don't want Boeser on the Wild unless it's for the right price, and hefty retention is definitely a part of that price, but that wasn't what I was saying. If I were in the position of the Canucks, and I have to pick a guy who doesn't score without good center, or a guy who doesn't score regardless of who he plays with, I'll take the former. All I'm saying is that's what Canucks fans are thinking, and it's understandable why they feel that way about Greenway. I don't think what I'm saying is particularly controversial.

Now, to address your point of Boeser's centers, what Boeser would have here in Minnesota is a Boldy to carry him around, and probably also a JEE, both of whom are competent offensively at the worst. Tell me you see Greenway putting up equal points to Boeser on that line and I'll stop belaboring the point.

Boldy hasn't done anything to show he can carry anyone. 12p 5v5 this year, 0p 5v5 in the last 10 games.

I have no problem with Greenway with Boldy/JEE. I don't know if it would score more goals than Boeser in that spot, but it sure as poop would give up less goals. So the +/- would be about even. Boeser is slow, stays to the outside, doesn't know where the d-zone is, not physical, and not a good passer. Not to mention he's made of glass.

Once you start looking at the adv stats Greenway is even or better in most categories this year (he was much better in previous 3 seasons combined). Boeser has a better shot, not argument from anyone anywhere with eyes, but everything else he's on par or worse. Some can be attributed to team build, usage, goalies, systems, etc; for sure; but not enough to say I'd want Boeser for a higher cap hit what Greenway has.

The fact that Boeser is a MN born RHS goal-scorer whose value is at an all-time low and nobody around here is that excited says a lot. I think he’s become a bit underrated but I’ve don’t think he will be much more than a band-aid for the Boldy line

If the Wild can’t get Boeser retained to a manageable level with Addison and Greenway they probably shouldn’t be in the business of figuring out a way to make it work.

Greenway has value in a non-extreme down year with injuries, especially around trade deadlines based on his game. If he an Foligno rebound they would get quality assets at the deadline if they were to move them. Addison has value in a vacuum, just maybe not to certain teams like the Wild. But he’s the type of player you add to, in order in get a valuable piece.

They would likely be net positive on value if they went for a larger rental and recouping value from the offseason through next trade deadline than adding Boeser, let alone going beyond something Addison and Greenway. Especially given the team this year will be better than the next two years of Wild teams, with or without Boeser.

It's mostly due to his contract $6.65m x 3 contract, but there are red flags around him as a player too. It's not just on here, it's leaguewide. If there was any type of interest in him (without a boatload of retention) for a somewhat decent return from other teams VAN would have traded him already. They've said they are willing to retain (I forget how much) and are letting his agent talk to all the other teams. Both of these things were made public, not just behind the scenes stuff.

I think Addison has value to be used as trade bait if MN was a buyer.

I don't think he has any value if MN was a seller. Quality teams want the complete opposite of him as a player for a Playoff push. Bad teams will collect their picks and re-evaluate after the season.

Between the end of the season and the draft Addison will have more value than he does now, because all teams are in next season setup mode.

I wouldn't be expecting anything big with Boeser, I just think it would be a reasonable flyer to take as long as it can be done relatively cheaply, and there aren't any grand plans elsewhere for the use of that cap space.

Can probably get a favorable extension out of it if he finds his game here, since it sounds like location might be more important than the $'s.

Id rather have nino or granny as rentals than an over rated injury prone brock. Heard one of his hands is #$%^^^ up for life the way it is.

I can see ROR AND Faber being a shutdown second pairing on the Wild,in a few years. What is insane about Dean’s treatment of Addison is that he is the only true offensive D prospect(( Lambos? Masters?) we have, and he is being lambasted in public for his mistakes, while the pluses he brings are being totally ignored. The guy is a perfect fit as a 3rd pairing, PP Dman, and we have no one else coming up that is.

I ant to think that Guerin has something up his sleeve, and is merely playing Dumba and Goli so that he has a better chance of moving them at the TDL, but fear that they are merely browbeating a young player, like they did with Fiala. Must be too quiet “in the room”….doesn’t play enough practical jokes, or go “Whoooo!” enough.
They did it to Fiala. They're doing it to Addison. And they're going to do it to Rossi.

There is a big difference in how they treat them in regards to communication alone.

Neither Granny or Nino are rentals.

Nino is the only one of them I'd consider trading for under their current contracts.

I don't agree with the Fiala part of this. He had 250ish NHL games before Evason took over as head coach. He was still young, but he had enough time under his belt to know what it took to be a pro. Plus he already had a player/coach relationship from the AHL days.

Rookie or 250 games, they were both subjected to scrutiny in the media that other guys are generally protected from. You can argue if it's deserved or not, but Guerin literally went to the public to smear Fiala mere months before trading him. Foligno has been dog shit this season and no one is smearing him on podcasts or in post game shows. He's not getting scratched for it. Russo isn't tweeting every time he does something bad.

Do you know by chance what nino and grannys contracts are at? It would interesting to see granny centering kap or boldys line.

Granlund is signed for 2 more years after this year for 5M per
Nino is signed for 1 more year after this year for 4M

TBF GMBG (and Russo by extension) have done this with lots of players they've shipped out.
-Staal wasn't cooked until he was traded.
-Parise and Suter buyouts and all the bad press they got after that.
-Fiala coverage,
-Sturm after being traded for not signing long term.
-Talbot and that drama (partially brought on by his wife).
-This year it's been Addison, Dumba, and Greenway. I don't think any of them are on the team next year.

I do think the GM is shooting himself in the foot by doing this. It'll make it harder for him to sign UFAs (without overpaying) when he has shown no loyalty and has actively thrown players under the bus.

Even if he gets a pass for Parise, Staal, and Suter as a: not my circus, not my monkeys roster cleaning. Talbot was his guy. Kulikov was his guy. Goli and MAF are also his guys. Now he's trying to kick one of them out the door, and will probably try to do the same with the other this summer.

I guess, specifically as it pertains to Fiala, for Guerin to come out while Fiala was still on the team and say the three good months comment, that's where a line was crossed. Everyone should be fair game for the media to scrutinize, but the GM should never come out and disparage a player publicly.

I agree with the second and third paragraphs though.

Fiala was on the team as much as ROR is currently when GMBG made those comments. It was dumb to say, for sure, but Fiala was only on the team on paper at that point. Everyone knew he was being traded by the draft.

He threw a similar hissy fit when pressed on Talbot's situation. He made plenty of Parise comments during his last season too.

It’s a strange but also familiar spot we find ourselves in. Our team defense appears to be almost back to the levels it was a few years ago and Gus / Wallstedt offers a ton of promise in nets. Defensively, this team is good enough to contend in an extremely watered down Western Conference.

But why won’t Guerin address the scoring? First he moves Fiala for futures. Then he doesn’t replace him with anyone in off-season or have any insurance for all the career year guys. Then Rossi proves he needs more time and he doesn’t address it. He’s had a ton of cap space the whole time. It’s really weird and you can tell even the beat writers are miffed.

And to beat a dead horse....it's about how Greenway, who has been absolutely horrible this season AND has actually #$@!ed up bigtime by showing up late on gameday, gets a nice heart to heart chat with the GM. When Evason was asked about that situation, he didn't throw Greener under the bus. He wouldn't even comment on it.

He probably won't address it, because it would be admitting he fooked up in thinking we'd be fine by moving Fiala. BG strikes me as a guy who is stubborn and has a somewhat fragile ego.

he’s got a massive ego; there is no doubt about that. I do appreciate that he seems unwilling to offer up futures but he’s eventually going to have to explain to Kaprizov, JEE, Brodin, Spurgeon why he isn’t trying to improve the team.

I imagine that explanation will go a little something like, "I don't have s#%t to do!".

Man.... I'm pretty down on Addison this year (PP stats notwithstanding) but if he's involved in a trade for f***ing Boeser I'm going to be livid. Thinking long term, i.e. post dead cap, what a terrible, awful, trade that would be. Give the kid time to learn and develop or use him in a trade that may actually help us in 3 years.

The Minnesota sports fan obsession with players from this state or players that formerly played here is something I absolutely don't get. I mean, I don't recall a lot of instances where players have left (for whatever reason, got cut, not re-signed, traded, etc), come back and then made a massive impact on their return to whatever sports team here. The success stories are few and far between. Yet, a lot of Minnesota fans can't seem to get enough of retread players. It's like people would rather have a half-assed or past their prime player as long as he played here at some point, than someone more likely to make a difference. I get it's not just MN fans that do it, but cripes that 'one of us' mentality sure seems worse here than a lot of markets.

5 mil is a sketchy gamble to bring in Granlund and hope he has chemistry with Kaprizov. Makes very little sense.
