"Better than what we got" is how you end up with a mediocre team with cap problems
They need to get 97 a center sooner than later. When his contract is up i guarantee he's signing somewhere else. The next 2 and a half years is gonna be hot garbage.

how far out of a playoff spot do we need to be for BG to sell you think? trying to catch up and read all up on Greenway and Dumba, id be happy to trade Greenway Foligno and Dumba. The greef line is good when all 3 are healthy and together but if 1 is missing that line blows. those 3 should fetch some decent futures.

Moving on from those three at the same time is admission that we are in a soft rebuild and I don’t think Guerin has the balls.

He better be. He's paid 6 times as much as Steel.
Would you take him over Gudreau?

Not as a center. Rask was a better center than Granny.
Rask? I had a sentimental spot for Rask, and even I think this is hyperbole.

I think Granlund would be the best center Kaprizov has had, in spite of it being Granlund's worst forward position, and his advancing hockey-age. The next best is Hartman, also a natural winger, but less skilled. The only reason you'd make a move for Granlund at $3M/year is to keep the team competitive through the next two years. If you think they can't remain competitive anyway, you don't make the move. I think he'd be the best $3M(or less) center on the market for that scoring role.

That doesn't take into account the assets it would take to acquire and keep him. I don't know exactly what it is, but I have a feeling I wouldn't like the price.

It's not hyperbole, Granny is and was awful at center. He's small, slow (average speed maybe?), doesn't shoot, can't handle the center d-zone responsibilities, isn't good at FOs, and has to be carried by his linemates. Rask just just gawd awful slow, but fine with everything else.

Granny is top-6 wing and excellent on the PP halfwall. He's just no better than Steel as a center.

The team will turn it around again and go on a little run at some point here, just like they did after a slow start to the season. It's still not a roster you buy at the deadline with. Don't try to force something that isn't there.

We sure as hell better be starting a soft rebuild… take the fans out of the seats for a season or two. take the L and get us some higher draft picks.

Foligno's play has been treacherous this year, but he's not due for a new contract this summer and he doesn't have character issues, so I don't see him going. Get rid of Dumba and Greenway without trading prospects/picks higher than a 3rd for replacement players and that's a win in my book.

Outside of production I agree Foligno is not an issue, teams would want him though that’s why I say sell him. He does not need to be resigned. Agree dumba and greenway traded in separate deals. All three for futures and maybe an expiring cap dump where needed.

With what they're being paid, Foligno and Hartman would be more than decent true 3rd line wingers. I have zero problem with either in those spots. Problem is, Foligno is playing on a line that our organization likes to treat as a 2nd line and Hartman is playing with our 2nd or 3rd most offensively talented forward.

Just seems like they're clinging to what the GREEF line has been before, not what it is now.

Trade Greenway, dismantle GREEF, promote Ek:

Kaprizov - Steel - Zuccarello
Boldy - Eriksson Ek - Walker
Foligno - Gaudreau - Hartman
Duhaime - Dewar - Shaw/Reaves

Or move Gaudreau to #2RW, Dewar to #3C and Walker/Shaw to #4C.

The biggest issue with Ek is he is like Koivu. He doesn't gel with offensive wingers. They tried Ek with Kap and it didn't work.

It was tried at the beginning of last season. A lot of time has passed since then and Kap and JEE do have a lot more ToI together now (mostly PP).

I think this is an area where the lack of lineup or midgame changes hurts.

if we traded dumba to buffalo for tuch what would we have to add? i can picture boldy / ? / tuch. make it so #1

I don't think it's a "what would we have to add" thing, I think it's just a non-starter for Buffalo. Hometown kid, they just traded Eichel for him, he's doing really well there, and they're trying to win now, and he's on a great contract. I doubt he's even available outside of us sending a clear upgrade like Kaprizov back.
