Hilarious stuff. Overpaying by almost a million and 3 years extra for a 4th liner.Nevermind the term, the fact he is making more than league minimum is laughable.
And people wanted Lou returned?
Not only did he cost us plenty by signing Marleau to the deal he did. It would have been deals like Martin's that really would have sunk the ship. And here we thought that he would have paid players like Nylander and Marner less as the Leafs GM. Had me fooled.
Nylander and Marner contracts are steals compared to the Martin signing.
He probably would have given players like Simmonds, and Thornton much more then Dubas did.
I think Lou is getting old and soft. Glad we moved on.
Holy crap has Lou lost it?
4 years 1.5M for Martin? Why?
Give him 1 year deal at 900K-1M
He isnt a guy who deserves that much term nor should make 1.5M
Clifford is a better player than him yet signed for 1 year and for less
Lou shouldnt be giving out long term deals to guys who arent top 9 players or top 4 defenders
The bigger issue is probably walking Pulock to UFA. RFAs may cave to Lou when they have no leverage but players dont have short memories. If he doesnt get a nice deal during round 2 of negotiations, I dont think he hesitates to walk.
Toews sold off cheap
This is what Lou does
Fault Dubas for over-paying the stars, but I'd rather that than over-paying 4th liners WITH term
perfect post. People bitch about Dubas paying an extra mil to 3 of the top players in the NHL but at least he wasn't signing 4th liners to long deals and borderline D like Zeitsev to 7 year deals...oh forgot about that 3rd year to Marleau that screwed up our draft. Could have had 2 top 15 picks in this year's draft.
Lou lost the plot here in Toronto and you are seeing on the Island. He is squeezing Barzal and giving Martin uneeded term and money. He screwed the Marner 1st deal and created animosity between the Marner camp and the Leafs which Dubas had to fix.
Except it did affect the on-ice product. Both in the short-term, because he was wasting money instead of using it on players that could address our weaknesses, during our massive ELC advantage years. And in the long-term, because his contracts extended beyond the period where we would have that available cap space. The difference is Lou had plenty of cap space so it did not affect the on ice product.
Dermott for Roslavic...Yay or nay?

With our depth on the left side,
Rielly
Brodie
Muzzin
Dermott
Sandin
Lehtonen
Do you think the Leafs possibly entertain moving Rielly next off season? With only 1 year remaining after this, odds are he'll be looking for anywhere between 7-9 million aav is personally i wouldn't do.
Two of those guys are playing RD, so that thins out really fast.
Not to mention that none of them are on Rielly's level as a defenseman, even if they all hit their ceilings. We are not giving up a #1 defenseman that is an excellent fit for our team both on and off the ice when we are in the middle of a window. We will pay him into his mid-30's and it likely be less than what Pietrangelo got, especially since it will be an 8 year deal.
Erne hasn't turned out any better.
Really, Gauthier worked out better than most of the guys after him believe it or not. He's at least a serviceable NHLer.
LMAO hope it has a NMC too.
Having a lot of hits typically means you don't have the puck.Martin had over 200 hits last season, is there a Leaf that comes close to that?
