What do we know about Juulsen?
Apparently he is a waiver candidate.
I wanted to trade Gauthier for him before he was non-tendered.
Drained by injuries, but would be a good candidate as a reclamation project. Unfortunately I do not think we can really afford to keep him on our roster right now.
Juulsen seems like a worthwhile reclamation project. Man, he hasn't played much.
On Gauthier, I remember a lot of suggestions about Gauthier for McCarron which wasn't a good idea. McCarron can't skate at an NHL level at all. Juulsen might have made more sense. I have to confess that I thought the Gauthier pick looked good on draft day: size, academic ability, amiable, PPG in the Q at 17 even if he was more of a future support player type. Theodore has turned out to the best player taken after him in the 1st round although the hockey press were on about Klimchuk and Shinkaruk. The player on my radar was Ryan Hartman and at least he's an NHL player although pretty much a journeyman replacement level kind of player.
Hated the Gauthier pick on draft day. Always hated low ceiling "safe" picks. I wanted Theodore or Erne on draft day.
Erne hasn't turned out any better.
Really, Gauthier worked out better than most of the guys after him believe it or not. He's at least a serviceable NHLer.
Oh, ya I know. That is just what I was hoping for on draft day. In hindsight Theodore wouldve been an incredible pick.
GM of the year strikes again. 4 years? Lol

I really wanted Shinkaruk when it was the Leafs turn to pick. Shows what we know lol
Lou hasn't had it for several years..Holy crap has Lou lost it?
4 years 1.5M for Martin? Why?
Give him 1 year deal at 900K-1M
He isnt a guy who deserves that much term nor should make 1.5M
Clifford is a better player than him yet signed for 1 year and for less
Lou shouldnt be giving out long term deals to guys who arent top 9 players or top 4 defenders

I've liked a fair bit of what he did on the islanders including getting Lehner, Varlamov, Pageau(price turned to be little with the deep run they had), Getting Nelson and Eberle locked up(both are good 55+ point top 6 guys) and his 2018 draft looks good (wahlstrom is alright but still high on Dobson)Lou hasn't had it for several years..
I believe Ross Johnston got multiple years as well.I've liked a fair bit of what he did on the islanders including getting Lehner, Varlamov, Pageau(price turned to be little with the deep run they had), Getting Nelson and Eberle locked up(both are good 55+ point top 6 guys) and his 2018 draft looks good (wahlstrom is alright but still high on Dobson)
But why is he repeatedly signing 4th line players and 5/6 defenders to so much term?
Komorov--> 4 years
Martin --> 4 years (reportedly)
Thomas--> 4 years
I like how he reestablished the islanders and they have had success the past two years, but these type of signings just dont make sense when considering the cap situation the isles face right now and their glaring weakness is finding a star winger to pair with Barzal.
Really strange and unnecessary move imo.
Damn forgot about him.I believe Ross Johnston got multiple years as well.
Damn forgot about him.
Its weird to see. If it works for them I guess it's fine but having non essential players be locked up long term is odd to see in the NHL.
Usually the Martins/Johnsons/'Hickeys/Komorovs get 1-2 year or end up being PTO and making it onto a team with most being over 30 in age
Isles offense will rely on
Barzal(he should be back)
Nelson (in his prime still and a really good player)
Eberle ( injury prone a bit but still a a solid 55 point guy for a few more years)
Bailey (another 50+ good forward)
The secondary scoring is a bit shady unless some young guy breaks out
Beauvillier
Lee(really poor season for him making 7M)
Pageau (great 3C but prob a 40-45 point guy instead of 55 pt guy)
Then they have physcial and grinding but very limited producing players
Clutterbuck
Cizikas
Martin
Johnson
Komo/MDC
The last 5 worked the past two years fitting into the suffocating approach the isles took but with the loss of Toews and Boychuck the isles defense is definately thinner this year.
If sorokin struggles a bit and Varlamov cant replicate his good performance the isles defense first approach could back fire with not skilled enough players to fit the system. With the offense being limited outside a few guys they could be at risk of missing the playoffs.
I would have thought they'd go hunting for a top forward
Toews + Wahlstrom should have brought back a quality winger for Barzal to player with a Ehlers/Mantha/Reinhart type guy perhaps
That has to be a joke.
