Van gets hamonic?

I wonder why we weren’t in on him. I personally would have preferred him to Bogo.

rielly. Brodie
Muzzin holl
Derm. Hamonic
Lethotenen

would have been a great top 7. Oh well

Maybe we were. Maybe Vancouver could offer more money, better role, maybe he just preferred out west.

Sometimes players choose not to play for us even if we're interested.

Hamonic wouldn't commit until now, to see what the Covid situation would be, and what the format would be. The timing just wasn't right for us. We had to commit, to ensure we got a decent guy for that spot, and we did... imagine if Dubas had waited for Hamonic, and then he chose somewhere else, and we had nothing? At this point, we could really only afford league minimum contracts, and Hamonic isn't signing for that. Vancouver also has a more open path for playing time.

He specifically asked to be moved West.

By NYI? Yes. That was like 4 years ago and he wanted to go west of Long Island. Toronto was in on him but wouldn’t give the first.

It was Toronto and Calgary. Both are closer to Winnipeg.

I’m assuming he didn’t want to go to anaheim? They are west

If I remember correctly, the Leafs were offering JVR + picks (high picks) but NYI wouldn't do it unless JVR signed an extension. Thank god JVR said no.

8 year - 9 million Barzal offersheet... and trade Marner to highest bidder of picks?:sarcasm:
Considering that nobody has cap space or money, the list of teams for Marner would be extremely limited. Plus we would have to trade Marner before the Barzal contract was official.

Also New York matches that immediately.

Was looking on the mainboards and saw a sens fan shitting all over Drew Doughty saying he has been the worst defender in the Kings (worse than Ben Hutton, Joakim Ryan, Alec Martinez, Sean Walker, Keith Mcdermaid) which he based off looking at their Expected goals for and against results the past two seasons.

I definitely dont agree with that and just looking at usage, teammates, and luck Doughty has been very unfortunate the past two years.

Just for fun in a fantasy scenario where Kings are selling Doughty and willing to retain on him. Would this be a deal we should take a chance on?

To Toronto: Drew Doughty @ 7.0 million (kings retain 4 million), Adrian Kempe at 1.0 (new 3C, 1 million retained)

To Kings: Timothy Lilijgren, Travis Dermott, 2021 1st, Roni Hirvonen, Alex Kerfoot, Justin Holl, Pierre Engvall

It seems like a lot of Assets but the last three are mostly just to make caps managed with ~7.6 going out and 8 coming in.

I think in a system like toronto Drew Doguhty could rebound and be a incredible fit with Rielly

Rielly-Doughty
Muzzin-Brodie
Lethenon-Bogosian
Sandin

Is the top 7 with

Rosen
Marincin

As the spares

Would still have Niemela, Kokkonen, and Kral as NHL caliber defensive prospects in addition to Sandin who could make the team or let us move one of Brodie/Muzzin in 2 years time

I definitely wouldn't say worst defenseman on the Kings, but Doughty has deteriorated quite a bit. 7 more years of him is horrifying, even with retention. He's not exactly known for his fitness, and he's not the type of personality I'd like around our young core anyway.

Wasnt aware of him being a locker room cancer thought it was the opposite with people having helped insane praise to him from 2011-2018 and saying he was a player with insane compete and character and being a beast physically

I'd stay away too then if he is a cited locker room trouble maker. Chemistry issues we dont need right now, just was interested in him as a player based off the rep I had heard of him in the past.

I actually like him now more than when he was in his prime, not as a player since he was obviously a top 3 defender back then versus a low end 1D who could further decline but as a potential target for the leafs to pursue to cap off going all in and push us over the top. Sadly in 2011-2018 we we either sucked, were tanking, or just started recently being good again and now we are contending with a very good shot at the ECF with our division having mostly crappy teams)

Was a longshot pure fantasy scenario so wasn't expecting it to go down but still was fun to imagine

Yes he’s facing top competition but these kind of numbers don’t exactly justify the contract.

I was hoping the Leafs would buy low and get a guy like Ho-Sang instead of gifting minutes of former all stars.

Islanders on Ho-Sang returning to organization: ‘It’s in his hands’

He also does not have leverage. He is negotiating in a pandemic with a GM who historically does not pay young players (often running them to and then losing them early in UFA) and does not have a lot of cap space after overpaying older players. Barzal also hasn't been as good as his rookie year when Tavares was there.

He probably takes a deal similar to Dubois at a higher cap hit. That's not really a good thing for the Islanders, but that is the situation they've put themselves in and they will have more cap space to properly pay Barzal at that point. It's going to end up costing them in the long run though.

I won't be surprised to see a 3 year bridge, and laters he's pmtraded before he hits ufa. Exactly like Dubois

Will be interesting to see if the Isles.management can't get him.sugned soon, what happens though.

Why would Barzal sign that? Why wouldn’t NYI match that?

While I'm usually skeptical of most offersheet threats.

But Barzal would sign the deal if that's the dollar range he was looking to get and the aisles weren't adjusting their offers. We saw a similar situation last offseason when Aho responded to the Canes lowballing by signing thr offersheet by the Habs.

The Isles may not match if they didn't want to lose depth guys to side trades to make room and/or Lous perceived dislike of signing younger guys to big money. Or they'd just match, and the player gets his money.

Bogo willing to sign early, Hamonic likely not. And Bogo I think fits the "need" of adding a more physical D man a bit better, though Hamonic is the more skilled player
