I like to think he will start showing better than he has, which really has not been bad at all. As a 3rd pairing D he's done well in that role. He's now played just over 150 games (155?). Even though he's been a staple on our 3rd pair, he's never been offered a chance to play with a quality partner (sort of a Rielly lite, if you will) which has stifled his development and imo caused him to be overly anxious towards accomplishing too much, again a bit like Rielly. He's a very good skater, strong, he possesses many qualities which should lead to success. He seems willing to try the right side, if only we had an accomplished vet, stable, defensively sound, who plays the left side who could tutor the young fella towards greater success. Oh, hold on...

Rielly Brodin
Muzzin Dermott
Lehtonen Holl/Bogosian

I guess I'm hoping that Dermott takes a leap forward in the same way Brodin did with Calgary a number of years back. I see some similarities between the two.
That would be great. Hopefully Brodie can mentor him in that aspect.

sign Martin 1 year at 850k

Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Nylander - Tavares - Mikheyev
Kerfoot - Thornton - Simmonds
Martin/Engvall - Spezza/Engvall - Vesey

Oops, as you correctly mention: Brodie, not Brodin. I'm sure Brodie would be helpful, but playing with Muzz was my take. Regardless, I think Dermott can be tasked higher in the lineup and succeed.
No worries. I wasn’t trying to correct you. It’s an easy mistake. Just agreeing with ya. Fingers crossed Dermott takes that next step.

Here before people think the Sens have a better d-core than us because they added a couple pylons in Gudbranson and Coburn.

Agreed, but I will give Dorion credit for putting together a strong off-season. In addition to his draft, and the prospects already close to breaking into the NHL, he's supplanted them by adding in some vets like Stepan and Dadanov in their top 6 while adding some vets at the depth level too.

Their D core of Chabot, Zaitsev, Gudbranson, and Coburn doesn't really turn any heads but it helps insulate some youngsters like Brannstrom.

Murray is a gamble in net but most goalies are.

Putting my Leaf biased hatred to the Sens aside, I like their group and their prospect pool is quite promising. IMO they shouldn't be a team that's overlooked too much they will be better this year. And the Canadian division lacks the elite teams like Boston and Tampa, so I'd expect them to give the others a run for their money.

What grit have we “loaded up on”? The only grit we added was Bogosian, and most people seem to want him in the press box.
When you have so little adding a player can be seen as ‘loading up’. Lol.

Dom has the Sens projected record at 21-27-8
I can't say I disagree with that. Chabot is a horse but he has nobody else. The defence is a huge mess even the offense is very mediocre. The Sens will work hard but they will get shelled on a consistent basis.
