Trade and Free Agency - 2025-26

Maybe if he finishes these last two years of his contract with at least high 50+ goal totals? But the back issues I think make it less likely. Also whatever team he's going to is likely to be really good and not have a ton of cap space, so its likely he'll compromise on $$$ to win (at least a little bit).

Seems obvious McDavid is the likeliest to do it. No one will blame him for taking as much as he can after he gave the Oilers this little window.

I bet Celebrini could do it fairly soon if he just takes a bridge from San Jose but I suppose he probably wont bc thats a hell of a lot of risk to take in a game like hockey.
Celebrini just seems too good to be true. I'm fully expecting an exceedingly reasonable 8 year deal from him. Something like ~$15M per year.

That's probably about right.

The leverage for the Sharks is the risk that comes with short term deal in a game like hockey and the leverage for Celebrini is that, if you have a player who can start plausibly arguing to be the best player in the world as soon as maybe this next season, you have to do everything to keep him happy.

It cant conceivably be less than 10MM but I doubt he beats the Kaprizov number on his first deal. Somewhere in between but closer to Kaprizov than 10 sounds right.

I’d add Knies, Trocheck, and Kane if possible. Between KK, Knies, JEE and Boldy we’d have a very hardworking core. I’d trade Hartman+Stramel+ for him and worry about a center via FA.

43-7

Hartman+Stramel+Lambos/Heidt for Trocheck

Yurov+1st+Brodin for Knies

I think almost everyone here would like to if we could.
idk that i would. he's still putting up over 50% xGF%.

I cant imagine anyone is trading anything of value for a 37 year old 5'9" defenseman with an injury history, so itd be pretty much a dump.

Idk that theres much out there to replace him externally and internally its Brodin (injury prone himself) moving to his off-side and Middleton moving up?

If you *knew* you had a big deal for a big AAV difference maker lined up and you absolutely needed that 7.5MM I guess I could understand it but I wouldnt do it just to keep zuccarello or other guys around or to add some mid-tier forward.

Also Spurgeon has a 10 team NTC so its not like you can just dump him to whatever team trying to make the cap floor.

Honestly I wouldnt be surprised if they try to sign him to a bonus laden 1 yr deal after this season.

I did think of that, but it's still a hell of a higher price than I think we're truly capable of paying. We've got nothing that gets anywhere near a top-10 pick in value, IMO.

Stramel and Yurov were late 1st but there’s value in being ready to go

If we’ve made our offer to Yzerman, which he hasn’t accepted, it’s going to get uncomfortable in Detroit (which has been speculated it would).
I still think we’re awkward trading partners and unless Larkin is ready to be more stubborn than Yzerman… we should continue looking elsewhere.

is it really so bad to continue on with what they have? its not a terrible situation to see what danila yurov can do in his second season while the larkin issue festers.

I'm not opposed to Trocheck but i dont see why the Wild should improve their previous offer (Stramel, 1st, and lesser prospect per Emily Kaplan). If NY wants to do that deal I'd be willing to do it as soon as after the draft (at which point it would be clear Yzerman is going scorched earth).

But, personally, i'm not trading Yurov for Trocheck.

I was a little surprised to see the Wild on Tkachuk's 4 team list. Makes me hopeful that there is a handful of players out there (Larkin?) angling to orchestrate landing here.
Just because Russo claims so, I doubt we will ever see any proof of it.
Like, where would he get his grabby hands on Ketchup's 4 team list? Why would anyone show him said list?

I don’t think so at all. My last post from a few days ago had us keeping both Yurov and Stramel, trading Middleton and Trenin (for cap space), and pursuing Tuch. Or maybe Marchment and Kane… but the point being I wouldn’t mind keeping them at all :).

I'm assuming that someone in Minnesota's management was told that we were on it.
From NHL.com article:

"[Staios] called the situation with Tkachuk unique, explaining that he requested to be traded after Ottawa's season ended and used his no-movement clause to his advantage by providing a short list of teams he would be willing to go to.

"Clearly, it was pointed at one team at the end," Staios said. "

So there was a list and the Wild were on it but realistically the non-Florida teams were really only there in case Florida was unwilling/unable to make the trade.

Staios seems much easier to work with than Yzerman, just my silly assumption from reading 3-5 paragraphs.

Conspiracies are fun but I don't think Russo just makes s##t up. Maybe some journalists do but they don't last long unless they are specifically paid to do so and even then no one talks to those guys for long.

He is still a solid Top 4 D in the regular season. But the other Top 4 D we have would benefit from a large DFD in the Top 4. Hughes & Brodin are small and not physical at all. Faber isn't very physical either. We need a mutant back there.

I don't see him being moved but i think it would help the team. Especially in the playoffs where Spurgeon has been a liability for a number of years now.

Maybe one way the Wild could close the loop on a Larkin deal is to trade Yurov for a pick somewhere in the 10-15 range if a player's available there that Detroit likes.

I think the Devils (at 12) might prefer having Yurov now to adding a prospect that wont help for years. If someone like Wyatt Cullen is available for Detroit there maybe thats enough to be the centerpiece along with everything else rumored to be in the offer?

Nashville (at 10) has been desperate for a young center for awhile now.

For the record Brodin is in no way small (altho i agree he doesnt play big) but I mostly agree with all of this. Id love for them to get bigger on defense too.

We don’t need a mutant , we have a Viking

It just feels so random that he would have Minnesota on a 4 team list. Why? To move from a place with shitty weather to another place with shitty weather seems....odd.
I would assume a guy like that wants to move to places with beaches and/or sunny weather and not too much pressure to hustle his ass off.
Like the Florida teams and California. Maybe not Vegas who cares about winning.
