I did think of that, but it's still a hell of a higher price than I think we're truly capable of paying. We've got nothing that gets anywhere near a top-10 pick in value, IMO.
Wally has top 10 value easily (but obviously we shouldn't trade him)
Yurov and stramel have 1st round value and in detroits case they might rather have nhl ready players like yurov.
We can offer first pick 3 years from now to like Florida did

Well that takes Florida out of the larkin fun. If some of these other teams aren't ready to pony up thier prime assets maybe Detroit will cave and take our package of lesser parts.

Larkin just watched a team in a similar, if not better, position than Detroit make a decision and trade their captain in a fair deal. Nothing in the deal includes what they’d like to have in a perfect world but the GM made a decision nonetheless. Something the Detroit GM struggles with. But yes, I am sure he is watching this and opening up his list further to help Yzerman.

The number was reported at the time and it was barely more than league minimum. I recall like 3x1.2m
So, one year longer than he got from Washington, but 50% lower AAV. Reasonable offer and a reasonable rejection.

And then Guerin turned around and signed a similar player for nearly double what Duhaime got, and nearly triple what he offered him. That's the insane part.

Absolutely that’s the insane part and it’s not a singular mistake. It’s his MO

The strain we're feeling at this point, both in terms of cap space and assets, is because of Guerin's continual slight overpayments that everyone excuses because they're not so bad in each individual case, but add up in aggregate

More than comfortable with Duhaime not being on this team. Same with Summer Teeth. Dumping those types of players in the year they did missing the playoffs for what they did is what they should be doing.

The indictment of the front office and the scouting department is they have failed so miserably with anything beyond the first round. You should be identifying something that can eventually fill some type of role in the organization via that segment of the draft as well as the college/junior free agents you should be supplementing your org chart with. Because they cannot or Iowa cannot develop anything (or some combination), you have to fill those roles when needed. And now they need them.

Rather have Duhaime than Trenin. It seemed weird to dump Duhaime and then sign his replacement for like double the amount of money.

Also trading Brady doesn't feel great as a Wild fan and Hughes

I dont want to hear on July 1st that his top priority is to get a deal done yet he hasn’t been in contact with Hughes. They can't announce a deal till July 1st, but they sure as hell can talk about it right freaking now. Have it all worked out, so he just has to sign it when the calendar hits July.

Duhaime played 82 games and had 9p last season. That's better than Pitlick and roughly the same rate as Jones.

Year before that he was on par with Trenin, Foligno for half the price or less.

It's not a question, no one is saying Duhaime is the savior, we're talking about fourth liners here, Duhaime is/was better value than our current 4th liners, if only because he's half the cost.

He’s also not skating in cement like half our current roster

Like I kinda said before, I'm not pining after Duhaime himself, I just want a player like Duhaime (especially in the 'paid like' sense) for the 4th line. That was also Duhaime's worst season of his career. I do think Trenin is a little better of a player, but emphasis on a little. He's not, say, $1.6 million better.

This move by Florida tonight could possibly open up some trade options for Trenin or Foligno to teams in the east, especially in that division. The Panthers aren’t going to be fun to play against. Some teams might be looking to get a little heavier and grittier now.
