Toronto Maple Leafs: Who Would Replace Kyle Dubas?

That's not true though. You can't base management decisions on the one thing you want to exclusively focus on, and nothing else.

It is true because he hasn't won, and at this point that's all that counts, they could win the next 30 games and finish 1st overall, if they go down in round 1 AGAIN it doesn't f***ing matter.

Watching the Minnesota Vikings and Cousins having great regular seasons only to make a quick exit out of the playoffs made me think they are the NFL's version of the Leafs. You can decide who you think is the Leafs' Cousins.

he also got suspended in the playoffs a THIRD time with Colorado.
I guess it's more fun to pretend that didn't happen.
Yeah, we all saw how the overwhelming majority of this board wanted Kadri blasted into the sun after his 2nd suspension. Can you imagine if Dubas had kept Kadri and he got suspended a 3rd time? Heck, 3 if we're lucky, since he had other instances in the playoffs that he would have been suspended for as a Leaf. Dubas would be torn to shreds, we would have had to trade Kadri at a reduced price, and we wouldn't have benefited from his fluke year anyway. A fluke year in which he still only put up 1 point in 3 games against Tampa in the playoffs.

Leafs management all but made this clear by not extending him. They are probably as frustrated as most of the fanbase are. I mean how many mistakes are you allowed to make and correct before enough is enough ??

You mean at a further reduced price than Dubas did?? He also had another option when it came to Kadri. Wait and trade him for market value, instead he forced the trade with Colorado immediately after Kadri refused to go to Calgary because he did not want to leave Toronto and it bit Dubas in the ass. But of course you will tell us that is not true.

 Post of the thread. Sums it up perfectly

I truly believe he will be extended but on the rare occasion where I’m wrong, the twists and turns that will follow will be some top rate entertainment.

Dubas got good value for him, as the hockey world overwhelmingly acknowledged at the time of the trade. You just seem to think that an almost 30 year old one-way 50-60 point forward on the decline with a long history of discipline issues coming off his 2nd straight playoff suspension was worth more than he was. The offers certainly weren't going to improve over the next 2 years, as he got older, the contract got shorter, his decline continued, and he got suspended in the playoffs yet again.

I mean some of it isn't his fault people say he overpaid the big 4, I don't think that's true I think he paid them what he should of and then the world shut down for 2 years, the cap stopped growing.

That's not his fault nobody saw that coming, the cap should be around 92 million right now.

But things like trading for Foligno instead of Hall when Hall was the better player and went for less, or if he REALLY wanted Foligno he could have gotten both.

Or getting Muzzin a month before the 2019 deadline but then sitting on his ass for a month.

Or the Kadri trade, I cut him a little slack here because the Colorado deal was not the first choice that was Calgary for Bennett and Brodie

But that Colorado deal was still awful.

Nobody has any idea how it would have played out if they had kept him and moved him to the wing. All we know is Dubas couldn't move him fast enough that off season. Sadly it is only one of the many mistakes this GM has made and why he deserves to be fired if he cannot win a playoff series with a core he has bet everything on, in 5 attempts. I mean, if he had any pride, he would fall on his sword if they lose again.

right from the all-star event ;)

Really sums it up. 1000 words right there.

We have a pretty good idea how it would have played out. And Babcock was never going to play him on the wing, unfortunately.

Babs should have been immediately fired after the bullshit he pulled in losing to Boston. That falls on Shanny though. I mean who hires what should have been a hall of fame coach for 8 years/50 million and less than halfway into it brings in a rookie GM that can't co-exist with his coach??

Well, I agree that Babcock should have been fired after Boston, but he wasn't, and the GM has to operate with the team he has. Kadri's value was only going to drop.

It's amazing how much people here talk about culture, and standards, and a tough, no nonsense attitude, and making changes when things aren't working, and yet after countless warnings, suspensions, and minor disciplines, and a likely final warning after 2018, Kadri goes out and does the worst thing yet, and those same people are upset that Dubas followed through on what needed to be done instead of weakly turning a blind eye, giving Kadri a promotion, and letting him run wild and unchecked with no consequences.

I think a big reason we are playing Tampa again is Don Sweeney being a better GM than Dubas. Boston is so good this year because Sweeney went out and acquire Ullmark, Lindholm and Zacha. All players we could have used but instead went to our division rival while Dubas was out signing Jarnkrok.

He better be!!! I still think his puppeteer is Bettman!

No. It's Larry Tanenbaum and the teams never been able to win a series since just after he took over. Well documented he has his fingers in the pie all the time. Ballard didn't even want him to have control of the team and why do you think that is? When we were under TPP he ran the show, under Rogers Bell he is still in the middle running the show as he has the deciding votes for whatever Rogers or Bell want to do.

Sweeney has assembled a solid team. They are good from the net out and can beat you in more than one way.

It is telling that the Bruins have always had solid goaltending yet Leafs goaltending under Dubas has pretty much been a tire fire since he chose Sparks over McBackup.

Ulmark and Swayman or Vasi versus Murray and Sammy. Who you betting on ??

There are a lot of moves to be critical of Jarnkork isn't one of them.

Fair, Jarnkrok is best described as “just ok”. My post was more comparing our recent moves to Boston’s. Under Dubas the team’s we have to compete against are acquiring better players and signing them to better contracts. I’m also not a huge fan of paying that price for Foligno just to lose in the first round and For him to sign with Boston.

Premature thread is premature

Premature threadulation?

What scares me is Trotz said he wants to be GM, sports has along history of Coaches becoming GMs and absolutely f-ing up a franchise. If barry wants to come here and be a Coach cool, if he wants to be the GM, hard pass.

Is Hunter an option?
