When everyone is back from injury and the dust settles I think the fourth line ends up being Engvall-Boyd-Simmonds. As much as Spezza has been a good soldier for us, There’s a lack of foot speed when both Simmonds and Spezza are on that line.

Keefe has a hate boner for Engvall and I have no clue why. Every time he's played well and the media asks about him he refuses to compliment him or even just flat out says he didn't think he was good.

Engvall always seems to look good, but he doesn't seem to provide secondary scoring. Until he manages to contribute more offensively he's going to have a hard time staying in the line-up I think.

oilers GDT is saying Hutchinson?? please tell me they're idiots, I haven't seen anything and am not prepared for him so soon

I don’t know where they got that from. it’s been confirmed that Andersen is starting (As per David Alter)

Keefe said it will be changing constantly. I have no reason not to believe he is going to keep adjusting the lineup. Of course there is dubas asking if he can manage the cap also coming in to play right. Pridham says, ifwe can move this #,Dubas ask for a switch for cap reasons. Thats definitely going on and it’s way out of my comprehension level of how the cap works to understand. The closer to the cap ceiling with Ltir now is better later etc. Engvall will be back in. Robertson will be back and Spezza will be taken off the taxi etc also likely coming

Has been recently? He’s got 2 hits in three games. Saying even more leads someone to think he’s been hitting presently and thats not the case.

I don't know what's going on with Calgary's trackers, but he was getting involved physically the second game. According to their trackers, Gaudreau only had 2 SOG which is obviously not correct if you watched the game.

I think people are overreacting a bit on Keefe's decisions on the 4th line. He is still in evaluation mode so he is giving everybody a chance. Now if in 2-3 weeks time he is still playing the wrong players, then we can complain but I'm not being too critical yet.

I agree for sure.

I definitely think we are a better team with Engvall in, but I legitimately think there's something more with this Keefe/Engvall dynamic.

Because Keefe has always loved him, he was the first player he brought up when he got called up and he played him in a bunch of games last year.

But Keefe didn't start him in the playoffs, and he didn't start him to play this season and has been vocal to the media about that as well.

It really makes me think there is something behind the scenes they don't like.

Last year under Babcock:
53.5 cf% (2nd)
2.19 xGF/60 (19th)
2.3 xGA/60 (20th)
48.8 xGF% (21st)
10.2 hdcf/60 (19th)
10.9 hdca/60 (23rd)
48.3 hdcf% (23rd)

This year so far:
52.7 cf% (10th)
2.08 xGF/60 (19th)
2.2 xGA/60 (20th)
48.5 xGF% (18th)
9.73 hdcf/60 (17th)
10.7 hdca/60 (23rd)
47.7 hdcf% (21st)

Good record, but not a very inspiring performance overall. It could easily be a lot worse if things don't improve

The big disappointment has actually been performance under Rielly/Brodie of all things but they have been given tough comp and are being less sheltered than Muzzin/Holl for zone starts.

Rielly/Brodie:

CF% 48.72
xGF% 39.90

Other Pairings without Rielly or Brodie on them:

CF% 57.67
xGF% 56.07

I'm confident they can turn it around though, hopefully starting with the Oilers.....and if not them, a date with the worst defensive team in hockey might just be what the doctor ordered with 3 games against the Canucks.

Oh ok bro. I didn’t notice that. Nice pick up.

It's interesting, Engvall scored a shortie in Keefe's first game (I think) and looked pretty happy about it.

Engvall looked like one of Keefe's guys.

I think Engvall is a fine player, but he isn't gonna make or break a lineup or suddenly become a star.

He's a 10-20-30 guy (in a career year) with great speed and reach, a tiny bit of physicality and decent two-way play.

On most teams he's the 6th or 7th best forward, on ours he's about 9th best.

I don't want to lose him for free on waivers either, but him sitting or playing is not a big thing to worry about.

Gaudreau leads the league in powerplay time too. There is no way he only had two shots.

I think it's a bit of a problem considering he has played well and doesn't deserve to be out of the lineup. He's one of our better defenders due to his wingspan.

Yeah It's odd. With the Marlies he absolutely adored him, and then early on in his tenure here as well. Something doesn't add up. You hope it's not off ice stuff and just trying to push Engvall more, but we can just guess at this point. The fact they also signed Engvall to an extension is also odd, so I think it's using the tough love approach but maybe not.

That pairing is killing me.

Brodie seems real good on the PK so I am struggling as to why they spend almost every shift giving up grade A chances. Both can skate and pass and yet we can never break up a play and break the puck out.

Morgan Rielly hasn’t been skating well. He needs to get on his horse more. If he doesn’t soon I’ll start to think he’s slowed down. If thats the case it’s not good

Engvall’s cap hit is not doing him any favours right now. I’m not sure Keefe dislikes him or he wouldn’t have pkayed him and buried his contract for good. He likes Engvall. He’s just trying to get the best out of him and juggle a huge pule of pkayers.

No training camp, new partner (yet again) and only 8 games in. Gotta give them a while together, even in this shortened season.

Reilly has been good on the PP and Brodie on the PK so just gotta make that pairing work somehow. They have shown glimpses of great things too but it may come down to the forward lines they go out with. Lemme check.

Thats a nice perspective. I like it. I think I’ll steal it if ya don’t mind :)
