Forbort also has more positives to his game. He brings the better foot speed and offensive ability.

I understand bringing up the veteran when another veteran like Regehr goes down, but Schultz has been Matt Greene II out there

He had options too. Meathead just turned around and shot the puck over the glass. All he has to do is just look to his right, pass it to Stoll who was about 3 feet behind the net and it's out of danger. He just doesn't come across as a smart defenseman when he feels pressure.

That's exactly what I've been thinking that's going on with him.
Also, DL has a rep for sending players where they'd like to play. I'm sure if Buffalo had anyone that he'd like to have, he'd make a trade if at all possible.
 
You don't play your way off an NHL roster because you want to be with your dad......If that was the case Nolan would have just asked for a trade.

You don't watch Gio play then , the guy is a dominant defender, having a career year. Next your going to tell me Weber is overrated.

I have a problem with his softness, slowness, bad positioning, and handling the puck like Matt Greene with a wrong handed stick. He constantly gets caught on the wrong side of the attacker's body and the only thing that saves him is a bear-hug pokecheck. He doesn't seal anyone off and doesn't get possession of the puck from the opposing team. He's just there. If he's been played 6th-man minutes, give those minutes to Forbort and let him develop. Schultz isn't (god I hope) in the long-term plans.

That's fair, didn't realize he was getting those minutes but at the same time those were (at least to me) 18 quiet minutes which is a good thing for his kind of player. He doesn't have to do anything great, he just has to do exactly what he was signed to and that is fill in for Regehr or Greene when they are injured. Just be a veteran stay at home guy.

Yeah, that's what we signed up for I think, but his uselessness gets magnified with pressure and more minutes. Having him AND Greene plodding around for half a game out there makes it really noticable. And the things I listed above were things I didn't observe in his game vs. the Ducks last year, which is what gets me. The puck over the glass was just the icing on the cake. He had at least two different passes in addition to ringing it around either wall and just chucked it directly over the nearest glass. Especially when one of our biggest problems lately is getting hemmed in our own zone, having a turnover machine like that kills us. They don't even have to be direct turnovers, if he flops an ugly pass to a forwards skates, we just dump it.
