Toronto Maple Leafs are surprisingly underperforming

Fanbase has completely turned on the team at this point. Dubas, Keefe, and the entire core are getting shredded. Half expected to wake up to a reckoning this morning.

Don't see it happening. Unless they go on and lose the next 4-5 games, Keefe is staying until the end of the year. Like that little baby whiner Marner said, they started bad last year too and went on to have a great regular season.

Has Ferguson been that bad that the Leafs have to continue going with Kaligren? I would have figured he'd seize this opportunity to get to the NHL.
He was only given a PTO and not an NHL contract, and the Leafs are at the 50 contract limit right now.

All TOR goalies under contract:

1A - Ilya Samsonov
1B - Matt Murray
3A - Joseph Woll (injured)
3B - Erik Kallgren
5 - Dennis Hildeby (21 year old AHL rookie from SHL)

I am glad Keefe benched Marner for a couple of shifts last night. Embarrassing for a 10.9 player. I really hope Leafs can get rid of him. I don’t know why he is so “special”

The core was never worth the money Dubas invested in them. Dubas is a moron. Honestly.

Not a Leafs fan... Enjoy the drama when they lose tbh. However, this is a very good team and will be just fine.

The calls for Trotz are puzzling. They don't remotely have a roster compatible with his system.
Remember OV and the caps offence only culture that lasted for like a decade ? All changed when Trotz came in and unsurprisingly went back to the same shit when he left

Coaching change is not enough there is a serious problem in the locker room. I don't know what kind of leadership group allows that kind of garbage effort over a stretch of 10 games. Even bad teams have guys that play their asses off every shift and compete. Losing is acceptable, piss poor effort is not. We can't keep bailing the players out by blaming the GM or the Coach, there is 100% an accountability issue in that locker room and there needs to be a shake up.

Yeah, Trotz is a great coach, but not seeing the fit. People get ideas in their head about what system or what coach is best. The best teams develop a system that makes the best use of the talent they have.

2021 record after first 10 games:

5-4-1 with 25 GF and 29 GA

2022 record after first 10 games:

4-4-2 with 27 GF and 30 GA.

Last season they went 8-2-0 in their next 10 game stretch.
There just seems to be something different this year though... The team looks like they don't care this time and they just don't look elite at all. Last season it kinda seemed like it was bad puck luck here and there but you could see there was something kinda special. This year looks like a trainwreck

The fans are pissed, Shanny, Dubas and Keefe are stressed, the goaltenders are frazzled, the D is taking a ton of heat, the depth up front is getting bashed ...........but smiling all the way to the bank........Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares. Appear not to have a worry in the world. ( ;

Yea, I thought the Caps got mosaic efforts from Wilson and Kuznetsov (never played better before or since) that Cup run. Of course Hotlby and Trotts as well.

Everyone has said for like 3 years that nothing they do matters except in the playoffs. Yet here we are with pitchforks after 10 regular season games.

To be honest, they look now like they have during most playoff games the last few years. I'm fine if they have stretches like this in the regular season if it means they finally hit their stride in the playoffs instead.

They're the same team they've always been.

Play station GM.

Goaltending is worse than when they had Freddy or Campbell.

Desperate measures......

This team as contructed isnt anything special, yes they have some glitter up front..But in reality ,it may be time to look at a reload..No depth, too expensive and very little coming up from the farm

If I just woke up from a coma and read this ........ my question would be "what idiot for a GM do they now" JFJ back?

There’s a reason why they’ve lost to 5 bad teams 10 games into the season: they’re just not very good. Paper thin forwards, bad D, and no goaltending.

If you've ever worked in even a slightly dysfunctional work environment, you know that it's bad management and yet all the low level workers know what the problems are, but the manager won't address it and usually doubles down on whatever isn't working in the first place.

OH dear. Well, my favourite hockey team sucks again. Kinda don't care anymore. Should have stopped caring a long time ago, and yet I will uggggghhhhh.....keep being a fan......

Hey it was fun watching Matthews score goals last year!

So Marner is not a "franchise" player?
No he isnt. plus his 11.5 (and play off performances) will make any GM pass.

They're the same team they've always been.

You have to make the playoffs for them to matter. And one of the issue is that they haven't been the same team they've always been. In the past when they've struggled its been down to awful goaltending and/or bad luck with excellent underlying numbers. That hasn't been the case this season so far. Which is somewhat surprising considering how easy their schedule has been.

The bigger issue though is that the east is generally very strong this year. It's one thing that the Leafs have a negative goal differential, that can be fixed with improved play. It's that Columbus is the only other team in the East with a negative goal differential that's a bigger problem.

Any hockey market is always going to have its fair share or die-hards that know the ins and outs of the team and casuals that just want to look swag and hit some home games to grab some drinks every now and then. Casuals buying SOME (not even a lot) of Marner jerseys means nothing.

"A few fans" didn't turn on Marner. Every Leafs die-hard with the support of Sportsnet and TSN put Marner and his Dad through the ringer DAILY when the contract stuff was going on. This is a fact, no matter what Jersey sales argument you are trying to use.
His dad is one of those hockey parents that had other parents doing the eye roll when he walked into the rink.

It's just always the same thing every year... From what I see always for Leafs fans it is always...

-obvious excitement to start the season

- a massive rollercoaster of emotions where they love/hate every player and coach/management all season

-fans are pumped going into the playoffs

-disaster strikes in playoffs and fans demand firings and roster changes

-nothing happens at all in the offseason except lose some bottom 6 type players

-fans are livid at lack of moves all offseason

-somehow after summer ends, fans change their minds and are excited for the year and think they will contend for a Cup even though Dubas did nothing to improve it

-repeat

... Somehow Dubas keeps his job every single year. It's totally astounding for a organization as world famous as the Maple Leafs that they are putting up with this every year while having some of the best players in the world

They have real bad goaltending.

How could anyone who knows hockey think a team with Murray, Samsonov and whatever the name of the third goalie is is a Cup contender? Leafs will be lucky to make the playoffs with a trio like that.
Thats the GM Shanny picked over Lou.

Shanny has taken the silent invisible approach since the epic play off collapse (the Habs one, not the Bruins one)
