The Belotti signing could be official as soon as a few days.

Based on what?

I would be very surprised if Belotti comes to TFC. When you have teams like Milan and teams in the EPL still wanting your services I would find it hard to believe he would be coming here.

Listen I would be delighted in his coming but the more realistic signing would be Criscito to help out the flanks on D.

I would rather give the playing time to a player like Akinola and resign Gio. A top 3 of Insigne-Akinola-Giovinco would be tantalizing in the MLS.

Gio may have been good for FC but, he's not even close to the level of Insigne ...its like comparing a hamster to a wolf, thats how big a skill difference there is between those 2.

Also keeping in mind the speed to go with that skill.

If they gave Bellotti wages comparable to Insigne, we are talking wages only really Juve and Inter in Serie A are paying. I believe Insigne would be the highest-paid player at AC Milan by like 3 or 4m euros.

Lorenzo is definitely the superior player overall, but they play different styles so it's hard to compare them straight up. Casual observers expecting to see Insigne dribbling through players and looking to score a hat trick every game like Gio in his prime with us are going to be disappointed because that's not his game.

I don't think people would have thought Gio would come in and score at will either. He was coming off a year of struggling to produce for Juve. Insigne has done it at higher levels and brings that same dynamic ability to beat defenders

The same thing was said about Insigne a couple of weeks ago. I am as shocked as anyone that it actually materialized.

I wouldn't dismiss the Belotti rumors just yet. TFC is allegedly offering him more than any other European club, and he has close ties to Insigne. I think there's a legitimate chance it could happen.

Regarding Giovinco, we can now afford to sign him under the salary cap to a reasonable non DP contract (in the range of 1 million per season) thanks to the extra allocation dollars we're getting from the sale of Richie Laryea to Nottingham Forest. It's up to Giovinco to decide if he's willing to play for less money in a city that he loves at this stage of his career.

I hope this happens. I remember watching the game between Pacific and TFC this year and thinking MacNaughton looked better than the majority of our CBs. Mind you, it's the only game of his I've ever watched but looked really solid.

oh I’m not really tuned in but I thought Gio was excellent. This new player is better?

Current day Insigne is on another level compared to what Giovinco was when he came over. Giovinco was struggling in Serie A when he came over and was an after thought for the national team.

Insigne is a top player in Serie A and a main fixture on the European Champs.

Yeah I can vouch for the Insigne comments. I remember reading people talking about Pozeulo being a top European player on here before and laughing.

But Insigne is the real deal. I am amazed he is leaving Napoli/Serie A.

I think he is probably the best/most in prime top European talent to have joined the MLS for as far as I can remember. Most others who were top level players have come beyond their prime. Insigne could have the pick of many top European sides still.

in Leafs hockey terms Insigne vs Gio
would be Tavares vs Kerfoot

Insigne is not at a Matthews level, but is a tier 2 star at worse case scenario.
Napoli's captain, & main spot kicker.

Well, he is 2 years younger, has similar or better numbers over the past few years and is taller and more versatile.
Belloti is not more versatile and has better numbers because he is a pure #9. He can score with both feet and his head which is great! But, when it comes to what he is going to do and where on the pitch he is going to be, not much versatility there.

Insigne is a level above Belloti.

speed and dribbling yes, I agree. But in MLS Belotti will shine just as much, if not more

Speed, dribbling, passing, link-up play, creative runs, bringing in double teams and spraying th ball, press resistance, etc. Insinge is the full package he can play as a CF, on the wing, or slide into the pocket as a #10. He will contend for MVP whereas Belotti will score a ton of goals and be in the golden boot race. Both are great things but Insigne will be the one pulling the strings imo....

Crazy we could have both of these guys and Pozuelo still.

Very well put. Insigne is the better overall guy and Belotti’s style in the MLS would see him score a ton of goals. Those two along with Poz would be killer.
