I don't know about 60K in the skydome, but I know that when they signed Joe Theismann and Leon McQuade (70's) that preseason games at Exhibition Stadium were sellouts. But, yeah, that's ancient history.

Yeah I'm old enough to remember Theismann with the Argos and the Leon McQuade goal line fumble, the way the Argos would snatch defeat from the jaws victory was absolutely legendary. I haven't cared about the CFL in ages but one of the greatest sporting events I've ever been to was the 1983 Eastern final, I just looked it up and apparently there were over 54 000 fans present. Incredible game, if anyone's interested there's a decent summary below. What the summary doesn't say is that the game winning TD with just seconds on the clock was even more dramatic as it came on a 3rd down play. And of course the Argos went on to win the final after so many legendary near misses, their first cup since 1952.

I had forgotten that the Exhibition Stadium was known as The Mistake at the Lake, LOL.

Not initially. It was started by Hamilton fans and Argos players reacted.

Between the Ti-Cats fans and the Jets fans last night the correlation between how seriously a city takes the CFL and how scummy they are is pretty high.

I don’t mean to imply the CFL is bush league, but it’s interesting that there’s never a problem with Alouettes or Lions fans.

Too bad he didnt outright knock out that trailer trash KittyCat fan.

Doesnt surprise me that KittyCat fans would start this issue. Just wished Argo player would have knocked him out cold.

nothing like drunken fans able to whip the pathetic argo players into a tizzy. especially after they were taken to the cleaners in their "home" stadium (I say that loosely).

I guess when you are a bitch, you are a bitch.

no kidding. I can't believe a fan was able to make professional players act like children.

nothing like argos drumming up positive media.

hey, your QB broke covid rules and now the CFL has to change policy to allow QB to play.

now your players are throwing haymakers at trash KittyCat fans.

way to represent the illustrious city of Toronto.

The fans at sporting events are giving every reason to show why it's not worth it to go to a game. Is this what people were complaining about during lockdown last year, the right to things like that? They can keep the "stadium experience"

well, that is a dumb statement.

good on ya!

TigerCat fan ensures Hamilton doesn't get a NHL team.

Oh to be a smartie like Jimmy.
Behaviour like yesterday is why Hamilton won’t get an NHL team anytime soon.
@Canadian Finn Jimmy is kind of right... hockey already has issues with Canadian fans/media being obnoxious as is. A big reason why players always sign in the US.

There is video.

And like I said, I was there and watched Hamilton fans throw all kinds of shit at Argos players. This continued for a while after what is shown in the video and it happened right in front of me - like within 30 feet of me. I know what Hamilton fans were doing, you don't.
There was a lot more going on in that area. Ticats fans, proving they are as classy as they've ever been, were throwing shit at Argos players, were dousing them with beer and god knows what else from the 200 level, etc. Ticats fans were also starting fights, including with other Ticats fans until they realized they were fighting their own side! I was in the crowd where this was happening and witnessed four fights started by Ticats fans (one of which was between Ticats fans, and that one happened within ten feet of me), the players being doused with beer, etc.

While I do not condone players fighting fans, snippets of video only show a small part of what was going on in that area. I was there, I saw it first hand.

You would have called the players thugs if this was the NFL. You can't attack the fans. You remember what happened at Detroit years ago? How that hurt the NBA?
And ended your career in the process while getting sued for a fortune. Smart.
Agreed. Be smart, walk away.

don't hold your breath.
so obnoxious CFL fans is what is keeping an NHL team out of Hamilton?

I'm not buying it....in the slightest.

You'll have to expand on that. I can't see how that makes any sense in the slightest.

Not necessarily about the CFL, just reinforces the idea Canadian sports fans are just ridiculous at times. NHL players already complain about pressure and the in your face attitude about existing markets, this shows Hamilton will be more of the same.

Have you seen European sports fans?

Canadian sports fans are like all sports fans. Some are ridiculous, some are average, and some are silent.

I mean what the Argos players did was unacceptable but why are they even there? Just walk away. Better yet, stay behind the security barrier.

It’s one of the reasons. Alongside not having a real corporate community and it’s proximity to other markets, low class fans harassing professional players is more akin to Eastern European football hooligans than anything over here. Should the Argos players have gotten close? No. But you can’t have fans dumping beer and food onto players or starting multiple fights in the stands throughout the game. Small market mindset certainly doesn’t help the case that Hamilton should be considered anything more than a third-tier market.

Toronto Police, CFL investigating incident between Argos players, Tiger-Cats fan - Sportsnet.ca

Toronto Police say they are investigating an incident after the Toronto Argonauts' CFL playoff game on Sunday after video emerged on social media showing Argos players in an altercation with a Hamilton Tiger-Cats fan.

"At the end of the game, two men allegedly jumped a barricade and were attempting to fight with players," Toronto Police Services said in a statement. "Officers and security quickly intervened and both men are alleged to have been assaultive with staff and police. As a result, both were trespassed from BMO Field and Exhibition Place."

A CFL spokesperson said the league is aware of the incident and is reviewing it.

“The Toronto Argonauts, in conjunction with MLSE security, the CFL league office and local police, are investigating a post-game incident involving team personnel and visiting fans," the team wrote in a statement to Sportsnet. "The club will issue a statement once the investigation is complete and any outcomes are determined.”

The video, posted by the @TicatsRoar Twitter account, shows Argos defensive back Chris Edwards and receiver Dejon Brissett engaging in physical contact with a fan dressed in Tiger-Cats gear before police and security intervened.

They got Toronto's lol. Besides that didn't stop them from picking Ottawa, which can't even have corporate buys.
