That’s totally fair

But

Let’s presume there’s finally an equivalent to stastny 2017-18 at the deadline available

Do you do it? I lean with gravity towards yes

But that guy is not there this year.

They were always overpriced that's why half price cocktail nights were so good. Or 25 cent draft nights.

You're older than I thought Dude.

My point is that he put up 70 points last season and that is going to inflate his upcoming contract demands. The assets we'd lose to get him would be young, and on ELC's most likely, and then we'd have to sign him to something probably around 9 or 10 million (who knows with the rising cap). His overall game doesn't support that in my viewings and from overwhelming comments from Isles fans. There would be a large impact to the cap and how it affects the rest of the team signings.

That to me doesn't make us a better team. Maybe he becomes a much better 2 way guy and it works out great, but that's the reason why a fanbase (and apparently Mgmt) are skeptical on giving him a huge deal.

Possibly getting another RHD to add to that position is a different topic however and one I agree is important, especially since we don't know what will play out with Pionk.

Maybe I'm on an island here, but value, value, value should be the name of the game here. Not saying he was ever really available, but that's why I was fully on the Weegar bus vs Anderson. He's already signed long term which going forward now is going to be stupid value.

I have no idea what the numbers would be for a player like that. It's really not something I can speculate on because tomorrow will be the first Islander game I see. I do know that a $4 million salary isn't going to break the bank this year so there should be some interest if he gets on the market. He and Byram have those unique contracts that have a 3 year bridge, with one year before UFA after, so those are tricky contracts to manage for the teams that sign them...if there is no will to renegotiate I think both get moved offseason. And I'd say in a defense thin market they'll get some attention and long term deals somewhere if not on their respective teams.

My own premonition is that the Jets aren't going to break up Morrissey-De Melo this playoff. At least not before the playoffs. Whatever happens with our top 4 will happen. All have underachieved in the past come playoff time at various times, but the Arniel mindset is leave the the past behind.

If that's the case then I don't expect Chevy to go big unless there's a big injury, knock on wood. I'd still inquire though to see where the team stands on that player. What assets it would take. Because with D'Angelo signed to run the PP in Long Island, there's an opportunity for their org to use a player like that to upgrade elsewhere, somebody who gave up a 1st would give them a chance to make a collateral trade like Vancouver did with its assets. For the Isles I think they'd be looking for a top 6 forward. Chibrikov would fit that team, with a lot of Russians.

I think Olli Maata is the guy the Jets will get.
He fits, can play offside with Stan, and kill penalties in his place. Can play strong side with Miller. Can play up the lineup with J Mo if more offense is needed. Can play with Heinola on his strong side, without sacrificing a PKer. Opens up a lot of options, and cost is rental, not a big asset move. Also played with all the Kings on the roster in L.A. so pretty easy fit in the dressing room.

Both this season and last Jarvis has spent over half his time with Aho at 5v5, but if he's not with Aho, he's usually with Staal. Almost 900 minutes at 5v5 with Aho over the last 2 seasons. Rantanen will probably bump him down to Staal's line more permanently though.

Perfetti's had 950 minutes with Namestnikov and just 88 with Scheifele the past two years...I like Names, but he's no Aho. Of course Staal's more like Lowry...

Jarvis' speed really stood out a couple of times Tues. FWIW

He's not worth more than Sheif...
KFC will be our highest paid player and that's totally fine but Ehlers I cant see them paying his more than $8-$8.2

Scheif is not a comparable because he signed when the cap was a lot lower. Saying this player is worth more or less than that other player who signed at a different time just isn't realistic. They'll never sign another contract with that kind of thinking.
