Why would you compare the 2? There not even in the same stratosphere

The point is if he was paid like a consistent 70 point guy - he'd be paid a lot more than 8.5M

Forwards that put up 70 points in 73 games make more than 8.5M - so arguing he's paid for his 70 point season is untrue based on the value of that.

In comparison, Walman who is the same age (30) just signed a 7M x 7 deal in Edmonton after putting up 20 points.

Relative to Walman, they're paying him closer to a 30-40 point guy than a 70 point guy.

I just can't wrap my head around Tampa signing the player to an 8-year extension to benefit a division rival with the extra year to keep the AAV down and only getting compensated with a 5th round pick.

I would understand more if we were talking about a 3rd round pick. But a 5th round pick is a long shot to ever contribute anything to the organization. Just a strange deal if you ask me.
Was for the player not the leafs.

I think I'd need to see the details of the contract in terms of what kind of trade restrictions are associated with it and what the buyout near the end will look like but Raddysh will be a solid add. I just don't think it moves the needle for Toronto's chances of success. I think Raddysh's deal at 8.5 mil is probably a little tougher to move in the latter stages than Rielly just due to age but it's not an insurmountable task if it comes to that. I think this is a reasonable risk for Toronto to take but if/when Matthews walks or asks out, this deal is going to be kind of meh. Not really hurting them but not really helping them either.

This is definitely going to work out well for TOR.

Seriously though, if they can get a few years of Raddysh with a similar level of play he provided this past season it will be decent.

8 years for a 31 year old is tough but for the AAV isn’t horrible.

How much did Vegas pay Marner and for how long?

let me educate you:
a journeyman is a reliable and competent player who has a long career by moving frequently from team to team, instead of staying with one franchise.
He has only played for 1 team his entire career, therefor CANNOT be called a journeyman!!

It feels like people are starting to lose their grasp on this concept. PK Subban called Jordan Staal a “journeyman” recently.
