  • Congrats to our latest Sportsbook winners - GOLD MEDAL kihei, SILVER MEDAL fish7 and BRONZE MEDAL Sammy Kat - new tournament begins today 6/15
Meh upon deeper reflection I really like this for the Leafs.

Their window is now, not in 5-6+ years when Raddysh is 35+. They desperately needed help on D to be in win now mode and made a splash on a hometown guy in the face of a grim FA pool.

Both the trade and the $AAV are very reasonable, IMO. However, 8 years contract at 30 is very risky. I don’t think any team should be handing that length of contract out at players 30 or older, so I’m not just piling on the Leafs.
That's very fair but the reality of UFA unfortunately, we just have to hope he delays the aging curve as much as possible

It's fine, but I don't think there is a "window". That's my belief, you can't build around Matthews and Nylander. But right now, no choice because they don't have their one 1st round picks.

Still don't understand how this deal is risky. No one has explained it to me in a way that makes sense.

Got him for nothing but cap space. Next year the deal at the same % of cap is worth 6.5AAV. The year after that, it will be around 5aav and go down from there.

They are not even close to the salary cap and have no major contracts due for 2 years.
Its somehow risky for the Leafs that should be rebuilding lol... Makes zero logical sense.

Cap hit ended up being better than I would have guessed and he was going to get max term no matter what. I don’t even care that he’s a late bloomer; I just hate signing guys to 36, 37, 38, etc. at higher AAV. I guess the idea is the cap is rising so much that in year 5 it won’t even matter? Since Toronto only gave up a 5th and everyone was going to give him max term regardless, I guess you grade this just on the cap hit and it’s much more palatable than I expected, or people predicted he would get.

this was always known, they don't have their next two 1st rounders

I've seen you, and others, post this a few times. What are you on about? The Maple Leafs have picks in both of the next two 1st rounds. link

They have their 1st in 2026, the one that won the draft lottery for McKenna.
They have Colorado's first in 2027.

The one they're missing is the year after that, they have no 1st in 2028. But that's the only year they're missing one. And they've also got two 2nd rounders in 2027. It's essentially a full compliment of draft picks over the next 3 seasons. Given that the one coming up is the 1st overall, they probably have a crop of picks that most NHL teams would happily swap with entirely.

You can say "don't have their next two 1st rounders" If you're not counting the actual "next" draft (the top pick) for some ludicrous reason, and you're also willing to ignore that they also have a 1st from another team. That's about as disingenuous as you can get.

This year was Hart winner, Vezina winner, and Adams winner= bounced round 1.

Next year will be Hart, Ross, Richard, Norris, Selke, Vezina, Adams winners= miss the playoffs.
lol

I don't know, say what you want but Raddysh filled a 70 point vacancy left by Hedman on PP1, Point looks cooked, Kucherov is still a regular season stud but hes 33. Maybe they can still make the playoffs but I don't think they're going to be any kind of a contender unless they fill Raddysh's spot.

I would have signed him to this deal if I was TB but what do I know.

You're quite clearly letting your emotions get the better of you but keep on deflecting and accusing people of crying when they make perfectly reasonable posts. Poor guy can't handle someone criticizing his team. I'll eagerly await your next childish response.
How about when you criticize the team, you do it with something useful that pertains to the situation, instead of generic trolling?

These points could be applied to literally any player in the league, that is why no one is understanding them.

Everyone keeps saying this "oh we only need/want him to hit 40 ish points"

problem is dude is 30 years old and has only hit that 40 point mark ONCE in his career, which was the clear outlier season he had last year, going into FA. At a certain point you are what you are. if he was 26, sure. 30? No.

1000% this is going to be a terrible contract and agreed as such by EVERYONE by year 2, 3 at the latest. For a team that should be going into a rebuild thats...not good.
Can you remind us what your opinion was on the Marchand signing? Your team was signing him to a 6 year deal at about the age that Raddysh's contract is expiring. And even if the last 2 years are "negative value" (which almost every long term UFA contract is), with the contract front loaded the Leaf's will likely be able to move him if necessary. And if not - it's unlikely this contract would be crippling with something like $130M cap and the Leafs likely in a rebuilding part of the teams lifecycle.

Leafs aren't paying him like a 70 point d-men either

Bouchard got 10.5M (with RFA years and a 4 year contract) after putting up 63 points with McDavid and Draisaitl.

What do you think fair value should be for a defenceman who puts up 70 points in 73 games?
And how did bouchard perform in the playoffs? And previous years? And how old is bouch again? Lol what a horrible comparison
