It feels like people are starting to lose their grasp on this concept. PK Subban called Jordan Staal a “journeyman” recently.
Huh. I always considered a journeyman kind of an everyday veteran player with no real strengths or weaknesses.

Not a player who journeys from team to team, although the two are often linked.

Heres the ai definition:

let me educate you:
a journeyman is a reliable and competent player who has a long career by moving frequently from team to team, instead of staying with one franchise.
He has only played for 1 team his entire career, therefor CANNOT be called a journeyman!!
Raddysh has only played for one team at the NHL level, however he has been with three different organizations (Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, and the Tampa Bay Lightning).

I've seen you, and others, post this a few times. What are you on about? The Maple Leafs have picks in both of the next two 1st rounds. link

They have their 1st in 2026, the one that won the draft lottery for McKenna.
They have Colorado's first in 2027.

The one they're missing is the year after that, they have no 1st in 2028. But that's the only year they're missing one. And they've also got two 2nd rounders in 2027. It's essentially a full compliment of draft picks over the next 3 seasons. Given that the one coming up is the 1st overall, they probably have a crop of picks that most NHL teams would happily swap with entirely.

You can say "don't have their next two 1st rounders" If you're not counting the actual "next" draft (the top pick) for some ludicrous reason, and you're also willing to ignore that they also have a 1st from another team. That's about as disingenuous as you can get.
His point, which I can only assume that you're ignoring, was that without their own 1st round DP's in 2027 and 2028, it's unlikely that the Leafs would enter a rebuild. Which means that adding a quality d-man whose age lines up with the core for a reasonable AAV when they've got plenty of cap space for a 5th round DP is a win.

Lol,

Your 'only played for one franchise' argument is hilarious considering we are literally in the thread about him getting traded to Toronto.

But beyond that, did you completely ignore his AHL career? He went undrafted and was passed around by both Chicago and the Rangers before Tampa even gave him a real shot. The dude rode buses for half a decade across three different NHL organizations before finally becoming a full time regular at 28.

If an undrafted minor league player who takes until his late 20s to stick on a roster isn't a journeyman, the word has no meaning.

What am I on about? What are you on about brother. Yes, I'm aware the Leafs are picking first overall in a few days thanks. I didn't think it needed to be explained that I was talking about 27 and 28 but I guess there's no accounting for how pedantic some people will be.

I'm ignoring that they have a 1st from another team because it's irrelevant to the rebuilding calculation. The benefit of tanking and being bad on purpose is to get a high draft pick. They can't do that for the 27 and 28 drafts, ergo being bad in those years makes no sense. I'm not giving a full breakdown of their draft capital, I'm explaining why it makes no sense to rebuild when you don't get the benefits from tanking. If you think my post was "about as disingenuous as you can get" then you've lead a pretty charmed life to this point.

Still don't understand how this deal is risky. No one has explained it to me in a way that makes sense.

Got him for nothing but cap space. Next year the deal at the same % of cap is worth 6.5AAV. The year after that, it will be around 5aav and go down from there.

They are not even close to the salary cap and have no major contracts due for 2 years.
Because it took him a little longer to establish himself as a top pairing D. Therefore he sucks.

Draft pedigree matters more than results. Call Lafreniere a bust and the same people will shit all over you despite Raddysh outscoring him as a defenceman.

It’s weird. If he was a high draft pick, everyone would be stroking themselves over him. If anything, his back story should make it mean more. He’s worked his butt off to get where he is and obviously is a very passionate guy. Hes also a big, strong, mobile RD and very good offensive defenceman

That's cool - Walman was eliminated in 6 games against Anaheim with his stellar playoff play.

If this is your gotcha over Darren Raddysh making more money for worse playoff play going to a team very far away from making them at all, it’s probably not a very good gotcha.
