really? his 'stats' were off the charts good.

How is this not very analytical when Raddysh has pretty solid underlying numbers (both offensively and defensively), even if unlikely to replicate his raw production and likely to regress given his age.

Not saying it'll work out for the Leafs, though. Just that it's logical for Chayka to target him if he wants the team to improve now (after all, they still have a decent forward group if they add a guy like McKenna).
Seems like a strong candidate to regress to the mean to me, since he literally just doubled his career best point total and is 30 years old

I mean, he could reproduce it but it doesn't seem mathematically likely. And a 35 point puck moving D-man is probably more like a $6million player?

So Carlson at 36 years old signing a two-year deal at $10 million is good. but Raddysh at 30 signing an eight-year deal for $8.5 million is bad. Aren't they both going to be 38 at the end of their deals?
Depends if Tyler becomes his old self and pops like 30 points then could be a horrible contract there is huge risk here.

I mean, I get the move.... Contract will age badly for sure, but the Leafs' window is closing, and they landed one of the better PP pointmen in the league. Its a desperate move before they blow it up eventually.

McKenna is the biggest question for them right now.

That's an outstanding move for Toronto. Yeah the last 2-3 years might suck, but even as a 50 point d-man and PP trigger that's not a terrible ACV. As a Sharks fan, I'd happily have done that for COL 2nd. However, if he wanted to go back to Toronto he wanted to go back to Toronto.

Also, if we wanted to stay in Tampa couldn't he have done something like $7.25 and it about the same take home (not to mention cheaper COL) on a better team. Yes, again years 6-8 could certainly suck, but TBL's window is a max of 4 years anyway. Who cares if you're a retirement home if you have one more cup in Kucherov era.

More like Leaf haters are sad they didn't get to see the Leafs gift a top 10 pick to the Bruins and then didn't get to dunk on Toronto with Marner and now don't get to see them give up future high firsts as they will be retooled and in the playoffs.
It’s been an awful, awful month or two for Leafs haters 😂. They’re trying anything they can at this point

I'm not saying it's Chayka's fault at all, but Toronto's farm system is incredibly thin outside of McKenna. I like Easton Cowan, but after him, maybe Villeneuve turns into something. Not a lot outside of those three.

That's just not true. Danford is a great prospect having a great run in the calder cup projecting to be a 2nd pairing dman. TLK just destroyed the WJC and then lead Norway at the world cup as Norways #1C and top point producer. They have other good prospects as well not to mention a 2nd and 2 3rd this year and 1st and 2 2nds next draft. Lots and lots of ammo in the cupboards

You realize this was the first year he got the opportunity he did?

This narrative he went from 37 points to 70 points and is going back to 30 points is ignoring the fact that Hedman had most of the offensive zone starts and 1st PP usage every other year.

When Hedman got injured and he got a chance he stepped up.

Raddysh isn't a great puck mover or skater?

Yeah it seems like people are just looking at his stat line from last year and are just assuming he’s a play driving dman. He’s definitely not.

His numbers very likely are a product of Tampa’s system and being on the ice with Kucherov more often than not.

The reality is that this is an average player who had a career year after being elevated to Tampa’s top pairing by necessity because of injuries.

The money is fine I guess, it’s the expectations that this player will be the solution to Toronto’s issues on D that I have questions about. That’s before even thinking that these acquisitions of guys on the other side of 30 just rarely work out.

Admittedly, I forgot about those two, and I do really like Koblar. Still, though, I see Danford and Koblar as long-term projects. There's not much immediate help outside of Cowan/McKenna/Villeneuve.

He's not a great skater but he's very good at moving the puck out of the zone, this isn't a Marc Andre Bergeron who has just a good shot
He's very much carried by Moser on the d side of things though so the Leafs kind of need an elite shutdown guy.

Also keep in mind Tampa usually has four good players on the ice with Raddysh. Leafs don't have comparable depth on D.
