What's not to understand. They had an off year similar to Avs in 2017, got a 1stOA pick out of it, still have a core of superstars under 30 and in their primes and needed a few tweaks to the defense.

Only haters think the Leafs are entering a long rebuild. They are back to being in a divisional Atlantic spot this year
They gonna miss the playoffs by a couple pts until AM eventually ask out

This seems like an overly steep price with about 3 years too much term. But it also seems like a move they Toronto needed to make.

Not overly sure how I feel about it.

Tampa let and division rival talk to him for a 5th round pick?

*If an enemy makes a mistake don't interrupt them*

-Mastermind Julien Brisebois, probably.

Fans should have been praying for a rebuild, Leafs are set for 10+ years of misery

This guy had a career year at age 30, all the power to him. But to expect even the 50-60pt range will be his new normal seems a bit far fetched to me, no?
He was on pace for over 40 two years ago playing 2nd pp unit. Was 15th in the league in points per 60 minutes. Had Hedman not been around 2 years ago Raddysh is probably getting close to 60 that year.

More like Leaf haters are sad they didn't get to see the Leafs gift a top 10 pick to the Bruins and then didn't get to dunk on Toronto with Marner and now don't get to see them give up future high firsts as they will be retooled and in the playoffs.

I just knew what Jim Hillier was missing to run his 1-3-1 trap effectively was a soft, one-way PMD in his 30s with one good year of play. Chayka masterclass.
why not stick to the Oilers boards, they have enough issues that you dont need to come complain about the Leafs

Not as bad as I expected. It seemed like such a TOR thing to overpay in terms of assets and salary.

I don't think Raddysh is really worth that contract, but he was gonna get it either way. 5th round pick is cheap enough that it was probably key in getting the AAV down a little bit by adding the 8th year, so it works for them.

In a vacuum it seems like a good short term move for TO. Don't think it will age very well, but they need to push back against their decline, because continuing that trend is unacceptable and effectively would mean that their last 15 years rebuild was a complete failure. It may still be, but they should try their hardest to turn their fortune around.

The trade cost is great, but this isn't the direction I wanted to go in. I want a rebuild, not some retool BS. Unless this is replacing Rielly and moving him out, I don't get it (and even then I don't really get it long term).

The haters wanted to see the Leafs and their fans suffer through a 10 year Sabres-like rebuild. Not gonna happen people, time to come to terms with it.

They actually have a good farm system and many draft picks. Pretty clear Chayka is doing both. He is prioritizing the draft and prospects/younger players while also adding guys for essentially free that improve the team today like Raddysh.

I'm not saying it's Chayka's fault at all, but Toronto's farm system is incredibly thin outside of McKenna. I like Easton Cowan, but after him, maybe Villeneuve turns into something. Not a lot outside of those three.
