This has real potential to be a Jeff Finger again; but on an entirely different level.

The one thing I will say, yes $9m is a scary number, for a guy until he's 38; however if he can at least be a quality top 4 defenceman, with the cap going up; it's not really a problem.

Sitting on $30m of cap space right now assuming Domi plays... only Brandon Carlo is an expiring contract.

Acquiring him will also almost certainly push one of Rielly or OEL out the door. Either of them should garner more in trade than we give up for Raddysh.
Jeff Finger was an entirely different situation Cliff Fletcher actually thought he was signing Kurt Sauer and got the names mixed up. On top of that the contract was more than double the value of either player.

Cliff in his youth made some of the best trades in Leafs history, in the second go around, it was pretty rough.

I have no frame of reference for Darren Raddysh because I've barely paid attention to him. This feels like a very bold strategy. Well, hope it turns out well for them, because it could very well be a boat anchor. Toronto had to do something with their defense.

I'm skeptical to say the least. When his name first started coming up a month or two ago, the first thing that came to mind was that the leafs should steer clear of that signing. Average 30 year old defenseman with a career year... Yeah, that's a red flag

They aren't paying him to put up 70 points. They are paying for the skillset.

We expect 40-50 points and for him to improve the PP and ~8.5 is perfect in the rising cap world.

Leafs still have 25+ million to spend with Domi on LTIR and Rielly moved and their entire roster is locked up already. They are not done yet Raddysh like Andrae are 2 tweaks to the Dcore much needed. Make us younger, can move the puck well and produce offense from the blueline.

I know people are skeptical of Radish given his age but defensemen typically peak in their late 20s or early 30s. I dont think this is terrible for Toronto, tho Carlson I think would've been a better option only because you'd have to commit 2 or 3 years at most.

Seems some are ignoring what Tampa fans have mentioned - he's had strong underlying numbers prior to this breakout offensively. Is it possible he won't hit this sort of production? Sure. But there is still a lot of scoring talent on Toronto that he can contribute to as he's shown.

That rumor was pretty dubious. Finger had been surprisingly effective the season before, but it turned out to be a 1-season wonder.

Leafs have improved. McKenna, Raddysh and even I will add a better Cowan to the list. There's just no doubt. So the issue is not about what Raddysh will bring in the first years it's all about what he does on the long run.

To which I saw....who cares. Clearly Chayka is going all in. And it has to be reassuring for some Leafs fans. And will make the East even tougher next year. Other teams will have to respond.
