Love the balls on the leafs for doing this. Anti leaf crowd looking for a massive overpayment. If it is, your guys will go up too so win win.

It's not really a bold move. I think the majority of people expected him to end up in Toronto.

The question will be, whether his career year in a contract year is an anomaly. Before last season his career high in goals was 6...

I don’t think anyone is worried about him influencing the market. He’ll get market value for what he did last season. The argument is will he be able to repeat last year and if giving someone like that a long term retirement contract is a smart idea.

Before last season his best season for goals was as an overage OHLer w/ 16

Market value for what he did last year would be around $12M. He was the 10th most valuable defenseman in the league by net rating, he got some Norris votes.

An AAV in the 8's is a compromise with some expectation of regression but still thinking he'll be a guy who can at least drive a second pair (though he will get top pair usage on Toronto initially given their lack of options).

His minutes have increased substantially the last 4 years.
is 100 extra minutes over the previous season on par with the nearly 350% increase in production.

Not that that had anything to do with what my post said.

He's also been top 25 in points per/60 over the last three seasons with excellent underlying numbers.

Raddysh is legit....will he be a 70+ point guy again? Unlikely, but he can be a very good 50+ point top pairing RHD with a bomb on PP1.

People are gonna clown cause it's the leafs but I really don't hate this for them at all. Is it a gamble? Sure but they're in a position where they have to take some gambles.

Bro ain’t NO WAY the leafs are stupid enough to give him 8 years

Isn’t he 31 years old
lets be honest. its a new GM. do you really think hes worries about whats going to happen in 8 years. how long is a GM's shelf life? 4-5 years? plus in 8 years they could be in a rebuild. probably even sooner than that.

Extremely Toronto move... It will probably be the only signing that is defined by how necessary it was that Toronto be the ones that make it.

Eight year contract sign and trade to pounce on a one season wonder who is going to be on the wrong side of 30 for basically the entire contract.

How is he going to be on the wrong side of 30 for basically the entire contract? He turned 30 in February. He'll be 35, 5 years into the deal.

From the GTA. Clearly wants to be here. Right sided dman. And from I read, has a good point shot, a threat that the Leafs have been missing for over 10 years.

Those are all good things. People thought this was going to be a 10+ million signing in free agency, and its not.

Its gonna be lower than everyone thinks because its spread over 8 and Raddysh wont want the pressure of living up to his contract.
He is getting a nice payday but wont be last year numbers extrapolated over 8 years

Good for Raddysh on cashing in. He's obviously earned it.

Think he'll be a good addition for the Leafs. Rising cap should make this eye-popping cap hit (which there will be a few, I'm sure) more reasonable.

Still reconstruction to do on that defensive end. But he should thrive on the PP making them harder to shut-down.
