Living in Alberta, I do know about him.

TJ Brodie is a Left shot but he plays the right side, he bring decent offense which some will say we don't need but Tyson Barrie and Cody Ceci are gone so we could use that, not that Ceci provided a ton of offense but Barrie provided offense.

Difference Is Brodie is much MUCH better defensively than Barrie, Barrie is ALL offense.

This is a MASSIVE upgrade to Toronto

I think this is good signing. Didn't even realize that T.J was an FA.

He's probably 80 to 90% of what Tanev is. Very solid defenseman. I remember a few years back he was just insane defensively. He's slowed down a bit and not quite as airtight, but this contract is very fair value for Toronto.

I actually like this signing for Toronto. I feel Brodie has just enough of a defensive conscience to help, and just enough mobility to keep up with the top players on the team when he is on the ice with them (which I gather he will in spades).

Surely you can’t be serious they couldn’t be more different really. Reilly’s slap shot is worse than my nonna’s, Giordano has a bomb, Giordano stands up for teammates, Rielly does not. Giordano hits, Rielly does not. Two completely different defensemen.

They are both skating defenseman who's style of play is based on their ability to skate. Their skating creates everything they do on offense. Gio is a Norris level dman because he adds a shot and physical play to the skating ability. Reilly is not a Norris level defenseman. The partner that plays with them has to be good in transition, defensive minded and able to skate with them. This is a player like Brodie.

I don’t like that it takes us out on Petro first and foremost. But I also don’t like how he’s not a right hand defenseman, which is sorely needed. If Dubas expects to go into this season with only Brodie as a notable addition, it’ll be over before it starts I promise you that.

Leafs weren’t getting Petro without heavily dismantling their roster. We’re already over the cap with this 5 million signing and still have Dermott to sign. last part I agree with you.
