He's not soft but he's not "tough" either, he's not afraid to get into the corners or dirty areas. Brodie is massively underrated. He plays the right side just as well as anyone IMO, even as a LHS. His only weak side is his shot is pretty awful, don't expect him to qb the powerplay or anything.

Not sure if he’s soft or not. I have heard some Flames fans who are upset that he’s gone, and they also said he’s okay offensively and good in his own end. I’m hoping they’re right.

Travis Dermott is an RFA so he isn't in there and Brodie is either a #2 or a 3-4 depending on who you talk to. Either way right now the Leafs D is better than the Bruins.

I’m not totally clear on how it works, but if a player is picked up on waivers, isn’t the team picking him up responsible for what he’s being paid? If so, I’m not sure a team would pick him up.

Brody is simply put “ good” . A 2/3 tweener that does his job . He isn’t soft but he doesn’t hit that much either. Doesn’t have a canon for a shot but it’s not a muffin . He is good at passing or skating the puck out if his end . Decent offensively . He’s good !

Leafs always get themselves out of cap trouble. Look at all the bad contracts they've moved over the years that nobody thought possible.

And Tyler Johnson is on waivers today. It's a very different market. There are a lot of players still out there and the bargain deals are already being doled out. @dubey Why would Edmonton have any interest in AJ at $3.4m when they just signed Turris and Ennis for 2/3 of that? There are still dozens of options out there to fill a role that isn't there.

Last season the Leafs got themselves out of trouble by trading their 1st along with the final year of Marleau's deal paired with some LTIR gymnastics.

What's it going to cost them now?

Second unit PK for the most part.
His weakness is the tendency to make bad decisions and costly turnovers (because he has the puck a lot), which has limited his PK 1 exposure in Calgary.
