Brodie is solid for 5m. Murray makes 4.6 and plays 1/2 of the season.

Always fun to see the see saw of emotions of alot of TO fans after every signing Dubas does... Dubas is either the best GM of all time or else he needs to be fired asap

This one seems decent... I think 5 mill is a little rich but whatever... I woulda hated a long term Petro contract, so this is atleast better than that

Would you take Tanev? Health issues aside. Tanev said prior to playing with Hughes Reilly was a fantastic partner for him on Team Canada during a World Championships.

Vancouver has tabled an offer to Tanev. He will make a decision tomorrow morning apparently. I am assuming Vancouver offered less term then he'd get in the open market. PIT is also hot and heavy after him. Vancouver probably offered a 2-4 year deal. He probably got a 4-5 year deal from other teams.

I've been a huge fan of Tanev for a long time and have wanted him in Toronto for years. That being said, you're gonna find mixed opinions on him from Leafs fans.

Brodie's not Barrie, I know many Leafs fans have PTSD from that experience. He probably needs the right partner but I think he'll be an effective top 4 staple on the blueline. Is the contract given his age and cap circumstances a touch on the rich side? Perhaps, slightly - but part of it is just the toll you pay to play in free agency.

Lol say what you want about the Brodie deal(I think it’s a fair deal) but signing Wayne Simmonds who is cooked is not Dubas redeeming himself lol

Isn’t he more of a soft offensive defense man which is what the Leafs didn’t need? Is he going to get the same treatment that Gardiner and Barrie got? How much better defensively is he?

He's not an offensive defensemen. He's a legit two way guy that provides high end positioning and stick work in the defensive end. He does not shy away from contact in regards to going in and retreiving pucks either. One of the better transitional defensemen in the game as well.

He's not a perfect player - as he makes the occasional boneheaded mistake, but that comes with playing heavy minutes against the opponents top lines.

TJ Brodie is a capable top pairing defender at even strength, but I would more so label him the perfect #3 defensemen.

He is ready to split time on the 3rd pairing with Lehtonen, Dermott and Sandin. He was an All star in the AHL he is ready for the next step.

I don’t like that it takes us out on Petro first and foremost. But I also don’t like how he’s not a right hand defenseman, which is sorely needed. If Dubas expects to go into this season with only Brodie as a notable addition, it’ll be over before it starts I promise you that.

Where do these guys get these numbers? the Leafs are a little over a million over the cap
