Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

Will have to come back tomorrow and see what the takes are after the usual suspects are done doing their rounds of shenanigans.

Not too bad. But I would’ve preferred this to be Tarasenko instead. But this works too. We really needed an upgrade in the top 6 incase Mathew’s or someone gets hurt. What I do like is this means Kane isn’t coming here.

Really like the Acciari part of this deal for the leafs too. He's solid bottom 6. Kampf should slide to the 4th line, he's defensively sound, put two crashers on his wing and you have a 4th line that can grind and shouldn't give up too much.

I'm sure all of this is true, but let's not pretend that it's somebody having a good season that all of a sudden people are now ragging on because he got traded to Toronto, like Persecution Complex was insinuating.
I never pretended that. Just posted the numbers.

Plus/minus is a criticized stat for a reason

Either way. There’s always risk to a move like this with a player having a down season. He’s the type of player the Leafs need certainly. And bringing him and Acciari in definitely boosts the Leafs depth up front which has been their biggest issue all season.

The picks are meaningless used as draft picks, but they have value as trade chips to improve the roster.

That's why I said it all depends on whether or not they win. It's not that they might have been better off keeping the picks, it's that trading this many picks for a rental in ROR will look good or bad depending on whether they win in the playoffs because of it.
But that's a never ending do loop. Don't use the picks now, because you may be able to use them later. Rinse and repeat. they used them to improve the roster. If it doesn't pan out, they have future picks to use to improve the roster.

What was false? Gaudette and Abramov are quite literally just contract spots. They are of negative value if anything. They aren’t anything to even think about other than a number to make the deal work.
.......but they are still an asset.

You gave up 6 assets including 4 draft picks.

I'm glad the Leafs made a move but I don't think ROR was the move to make. That defence is going to be overwhelmed again. Good luck to them at least.
It depends what happens with Muzzin, and they could still make some moves...he could get desperate and move Knies and/or one of our young D like a Sandin. Our D is less of a weak spot than in the past actually, but injuries could still wipe it out as is.

like this deal. O'Reilly make Toronto's center depth pretty crazy or could maybe even try him on Tavares wing. Wonder if they're able to resign him to a bit of a hometown discount kind of similar to Giordano last year? (obviously not as cheap)

Dang, hefty-ish return for ROR. Calling Acciari a throw in and considering Gaudette basically a waiver player, you could call it something like ROR for Abramov + 1st +3rd (+4th for retention) and it isn’t really that outrageous, but still looks like a big return.

Regardless, Matthews/Tavares/ROR is all-star game level center depth.

I like it, another C. Having a down year and injuries but can slide into the a top line role if needed. Pretty hefty price for him, but at least Dubas is going for the win. I just hope he can return somewhat to his normal self.
