Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

Dang, hefty-ish return for ROR. Calling Acciari a throw in and considering Gaudette basically a waiver player, you could call it something like ROR for Abramov + 1st +3rd +4th and it isn’t really that outrageous, but still looks like a big return.

Regardless, Matthews/Tavares/ROR is all-star game level center depth.

Acciari is a veryyyy good bottom 6 player, we had a few proposals thrown around for him I'm pretty pumped with getting him in the deal as well

I hate to admit it (and I mean HATE) but I feel this pushes Toronto passed the 1st round.
Hows their blueline?

But that's a never ending do loop. Don't use the picks now, because you may be able to use them later. Rinse and repeat. they used them to improve the roster. If it doesn't pan out, they have future picks to use to improve the roster.

I don't mean "don't use the picks now", I mean they arguably used a lot of picks inefficiently and had better ways to use those picks to improve the team.

I definitely won't criticize the Leafs for the move. Like I've said a couple of times, whether this deal is a success or not depends entirely on whether they win. It's just I think they probably overpaid for what they're getting here with ROR's decline. But like I said, all that matters is whether they can actually go on a deep run. No one will give a shit about overpaying a bit for ROR if they win a Cup because of it.

I don't usually like applying this logic to teams making trades, but this feels especially true with the Leafs this year. It's all-in, now or never with them IMO.

It depends what happens with Muzzin, and they could still make some moves...he could get desperate and move Knies and/or one of our young D like a Sandin. Our D is less of a weak spot than in the past actually, but injuries could still wipe it out as is.

Are you confident in that defence in a seven game series?

Bunting Matthews Nylander
Knies Tavares Marner
Kerfoot O'Rielly Jarnkrok
Aston-Reese Kampf Acciari
reeks of the foligno deal. toronto better hope ROR turns it around.
Could be what the Foligno deal was suppose to be if Foligno didn't get injured.

ROR better be more than a locker room leadership guy. Leafs need someone outside the core 4 who can actually score in the playoffs, and I'm worried ROR is too washed up. Dubas used his only shot here and it better work.

We’d better f-Kim draft

Hows their blueline?

It's f***ing solid, still need another top 4D, but Rielly/Brodie/Liljegren/Sandin/Giordano are all solid players. Team defence has been our biggest strength all year, add ROR and Acciari to that, it's even stronger. Now hoping Dubas acquires a good RHD.

Seems like a solid move to make sure the Leafs can match up down the middle with anyone else in the east. It also keeps O'Reilly out of Boston's hands where there was some talk he could be headed. Acciari is the sort of worker bee who is a PITA and has value going into the playoffs for sure. Not a fan of the Leafs at all, but they really did well for this and I expect they will still make a move to help their defense.
