Throw in an extra 1st, that's the kind of package that gets close to landing Meier - which is the type of player (entering his prime, not a pending UFA) the Leafs should've been targeting

That's not quite true. Broken bones don't just "heal and that's it". They will be weaker and might be less powerful for a long time. In figure skating for example, a person might have broken their foot and for the rest of their career, could never jump nearly as high as before. But of course, hockey might not have such specialized measurements for performance.

In either case, it's misleading to say that broken bones just heal and then are all fine.
